LWR CERT News & Updates
We've been fortunate so far this hurricane season, but we're not in the clear yet. Hurricane Season ends Nov. 30.
News You Can Use and Other Interesting Tidbits
Hurricane Preparedness: LWR CERT educated more than 300 area residents during four Hurricane Preparedness sessions in 2019. This was a tremendous success, especially as a first year program. Thanks to all who attended and/or who helped us provide these events. Watch for even more engaging public education sessions in 2020.

Team Kits : Due to the timing of the holidays, Team Kits will remain in the field until early December. Team Kit Collection Day is set for 9-10:30 AM Saturday, Dec. 7.

Manatee County Sheriff's Night Out: Join Sheriff Wells and his deputies for a free night of family fun with food, music, bounce houses, obstacle courses, face paining and demonstrations by first responders on Thursday, Oct. 10 from 6-9 PM at the Sheriff's Office, 600 301 Blvd W. Member News
Hats off to the 128 members who qualified as 2019 LWR CERT Active Responders. It's exciting to see all those Active Responder car stickers as we walk through area parking lots.

Congratulations to Tammy Barg who has been named Chair of the Radio Communications Committee. Thanks for stepping up and agreeing to lead our hams!

Kudos to the Radio Communications Committee for their successful Ham Radio test on Sept. 10. It's great to know that everyone came in loud and clear. We appreciate the RCC's level of detail and commitment to ensuring our messages can reach the appropriate persons in case of a disaster response. Over.

Congratulations to Jim Emanuelson and Karen Emanuelson for successfully completing 3 days of FEMA CERT Basic Train the Trainer training in Naples.
Manatee County Emergency Management Needs Your Help
Do you like to talk? Are you comfortable speaking in front of a group of people?

If so, the Manatee County Emergency Management office needs your help. They are looking for several experienced CERT volunteers who are interested in conducting community hurricane preparedness presentations from time to time. These presentations are typically to area HOAs, mobile home parks, clubs and other organizations. The presentations are canned topics put together in PowerPoint, and they typically take about half an hour to do.

Interested? Contact Manatee County Emergency Management Coordinator Joel Richmond a t Joel.Richmond@mymanatee.org or 941-749-3500 ext. 1672.
There's an App for That: Hurricane - American Red Cross
This free app from the American Red Cross monitors hurricane conditions in your local area, throughout the storm track, and provides a way to let others know you are safe even if the power is out. It also allows you to monitor multiple locations so you can monitor weather near family members and friends and select which alerts you want in each area.

Additional features includes a hurricane tracker with wind speeds and a toolkit with a flashlight and loud alarm, handy should you need to attract help. The app also includes tips for before, during, and after an event; a recovery checklist and quizzes with achievement badges.

Text "GETCANE" to 90999 for a direct link or visit your app store. Hurricane Alerts by American Red Cross skills are also available on Amazon Echo devices. Visit Amazon Alexa Skills to enable on your device.
