“Life is not worth living unless it is lived for others.”
- St. Teresa of Calcutta
|
We must take these words of St. Teresa of Calcutta to heart as we continue into our eighth month of the pandemic. We have all been affected. We must continue to help each other and look after the most vulnerable and isolated. St. Brigid of Kildare is committed to providing a spiritual home for our parishioners. It will not look the same as in the past, but our clergy and staff continue to try to come up with creative ways to keep our parishioners safe and provide the sacraments.
Last weekend, 174 current freshman were confirmed. We had a ceremony outside on Bishop Watterson High School’s back field. It was a joyful event that kept everyone protected. It took a monumental effort and coordination from many. Thank you to all that contributed in making this a special day for our students.
We continue to try to connect with and help our parishioners in this new world. Please continue to seek out ways of staying connected. There are many featured in this newsletter. Please continue to pray. May God protect you and all those you love and cherish.

Mass Intentions for Jan-Mar 2021
|
This year we will be taking Mass intentions electronically through forms on the website. The form will go live on Monday, October 19 at 9:00 a.m. at www.stbrigidofkildare.org (search "Mass intentions" or look at the Latest News). We will only be taking requests for January, February and March 2021 at this time.
In order to fairly accommodate all Mass Intentions requested, we ask that you request no more than two (2) Mass intentions per family per quarter and only one Mass intention per month.
* Because of COVID-19, Mass times may change. You are only selecting a date for requested Mass intentions. There is no option to select a time for a Mass.

Christmas 2020 Mass Times
|
Below you will find our Christmas Mass schedule for 2020. These will be live Masses in the church as well as live stream Masses online (with the exception of one, noted below).
During this time in the pandemic, please know that we still encourage parishioners to participate in the charity of staying home and attending Mass via live stream, as we know this is the most certain way to keep us all healthy. Bishop Brennan has granted dispensation from attending Mass indefinitely.
In addition to our Christmas Eve and Christmas Day Mass schedule, this year we will also be offering Masses during the Octave of Christmas so that you have more opportunities to celebrate Christmas with your families if you choose to do so in person.
The Octave of Christmas
The Octave of Christmas is celebrated from Christmas day to January 1st, the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God. The wisdom of the Church begins the octave with the birth of Jesus and ends it on the eighth day with the veneration of Mary’s role in the incarnation. The Liturgy gives the clues that every day within the octave is treated the same as the original feast day of the Nativity of our Lord. We invite you to consider extending the feast throughout the octave by rejoicing in the Incarnation, the coming of God as man – fully human and fully divine in the person of Jesus Christ.

Grieving in the Time of a Pandemic
|
How do we grieve in the time of the global pandemic? We were not ready for this kind of grief.
COVID-19 has changed so many pieces of our lives — some we can name and some we have yet to realize. We grieve the loss of many things. Among our losses we might include loss of plans, loss of a job, loss of financial security, loss of life the way we knew it. We each could add to this list. We grieve not being able to visit those in long-term care centers and those who live in these centers grieve the lack of visitors. We are up to our eyes in PANDEMIC FATUGUE, even as we know that this pandemic will be with us for a long time.

Virtual EPIC Event: Box of Joy
|
While we will not gather this fall for a November EPIC event, we challenge our EPIC kids and their families to consider learning, praying, and giving to Box of Joy:
Learn: Follow this link and click on each of the categories listed to learn more about how Cross Catholic Outreach is transforming lives around the world.
Pray: Cross Catholic Outreach has a structured prayer schedule in their office. Each day, Cross Catholic prays and grows together in a different way. Mondays they study scripture, Tuesdays they have intercessory prayer, Wednesdays they learn about the mission work being done and people being served in a given country through Cross Catholic, and on Thursdays/ Fridays they have Christian Book group.
Click here to read more and consider tying their practices into your family's schedule this November, as you pray for the kids who will receive a Box of Joy.
Give: Create a virtual Box of Joy by donating the funds for Cross Catholic Outreach to pack and send a box in your name. In the heart of service and sacrificial love, we encourage EPIC students to consider making the financial gift through money earned and set aside for this donation.
On or before November 15, click the button below to donate one or more Boxes of Joy around the world!

Giving Tree 2020 - "Hybrid Model"
|
Due to COVID-19 and the challenges we are facing individually and as a parish, we have made changes to the Giving Tree Project to allow parishioners to participate in a safe and hopefully easier manner. There will not be any trees with paper ornaments this year in the Church’s Gathering Area, but instead all donation opportunities are listed by organization on the Sign-up Genius link: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/508094BABAF28A2F85-2020 Please click on the “sign up” tab next to the item you would like to donate – you will receive an email reminding you of your selection and the due date.

Thanksgiving Food Drive 2020
|
The Dublin Food Pantry is now preparing for its annual Thanksgiving food collection drive. This year has been a challenge with the pantry providing drive-through services to 100-150 families per week. Many are families who have never accessed a food pantry. This Thanksgiving, the pantry hopes to provide Thanksgiving food boxes for 400-450 families during the month of November. Many churches throughout Dublin will be providing food items for the boxes. As in the past, St. Brigid parishioners have two options for giving:
-
Provide an entire Thanksgiving dinner or
- Provide boxed potatoes and gravy
Click the link below for details on both options.
