October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and we encourage everyone to
join us in wearing purple on Wednesday, October 23
rd
.
Domestic violence affects us all – individuals, families, advocates, and community. We know that 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men have been victims of physical violence by an intimate partner. One in 15 children are exposed to this violence, and 90% of these children are eyewitnesses.
The LBPD’s Women’s Advisory Group (WAG) consists of incredibly dedicated members who work with the Department to build effective communication with the community. Each year we work with WAG to raise awareness, educate, and inform Long Beach about the issue of domestic violence through the
Break the Silence Long Beach
campaign.
We are proud to partner with community members and organizations who serve and protect all victims of domestic violence regardless of age, gender, race, cultural background, sexual orientation, or immigration status. We want to especially emphasize to
any
victim who may be worried about seeking help that it is safe to access support and call for help in our city.
We ask for your help in Breaking the Silence by wearing purple on October 23
rd
and knowing the numbers to call for help:
National Domestic Violence Hotline: 1-800-799-7233
