Parents Play a Key Role in Reading
Researchers from the University of Calgary have written an excellent article about the role that parents play in fostering children's love of reading. Talking and reading from birth is highlighted, along with Parent Tips to support early readers.

Volunteers needed!
Take your 'chance' to volunteer and help Calgary Reads raise funds through our casino on December 11 & 12, 2019. We are looking for 38 volunteers to take a daytime or evening shift. The money raised will put books into the homes of children who most need them. Given the current economic climate in Alberta, this fundraising opportunity is more important to us than ever. For more information email [email protected] .

We need your voice!
Are you a parent, grandparent or caregiver?
Do you work with children aged 0-8 years?
Do you care about children?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, please take 10 minutes to read the Citywide Strategy for All Children and complete the survey. We need your input to make Calgary a city where all children are supported to reach their fullest potential.

Year-Round Book Donations!
We are THRILLED to announce that for the first time, thanks to a generous donation from Strategic Group and Store & Go, we can now accept book donations for our Big Book Sale YEAR-ROUND! We'll have volunteers on-site (1216 10 Ave SW) every Saturday from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm to help you out! Click here for more information about acceptable donations, times, and volunteer opportunities.
We currently have a particular need for beautiful coffee table books, full of enchanting images and stories, to support our Reading Place partnerships at locations like the new YW Hub in Inglewood!

We'll always accept donations for children's books at the Children's Reading Place , but ask that all adult books, including coffee table books, are collecting through our Store & Go Saturdays!
