Leadership Premier 2023 Falling Into Place

Leadership's newest Premier Class, LP 2023, officially kicked off on September 13. Class members recently reconvened last week, for an enriching, 2-day teambuilding experience that provided all with an opportunity to get to know themselves, and each other, better.  Highlights about the 2023 program will be shared as the program year unfolds.

Alumni Learning Opportunities


LHC is happy to announce that alumni learning opportunities are, once again, returning as a member benefit for the 2022-23 program year. Active members are encouraged to participate in these behind-the-scenes learning experiences, in conjunction with LP 2023 class members, to learn about various aspects of our community in a brand new light.

Peek behind the stage at Merriweather Post Pavilion, to learn more about our community's premier, live music venue, along with the Downtown Columbia Culture & Arts Commission, and the Downtown Columbia Partnership. Space is limited so, click here to register today!

Active alumni are invited to take flight with BGE’s Uncrewed Aerial Systems (UAS) Operations Team to learn more about their (UAS) operations. This experiential drone fly-day will be insightful, hands-on, and fun with the BGE Team, who will showcase various models of drones used in the industry today and provide more information about the future pathway of drone innovations.  Attendees will be able to test out their piloting skills and fly a drone around the training center.

Application-Deadline Approaching 

Offered by Loyola University Maryland, Leadership Essentials (LE) is a six-month leadership development program for emerging professionals who have demonstrated their abilities and want to enhance their development as a leader. The program is comprised of three main components: leadership skill development sessions, individual coaching, and a team-based community impact project. The program begins in December and runs through early June 2023.

Community Events & Volunteer Opportunities

LHC's Leadership U 3D-HC Day is approaching Friday, October 21. This experiential, service-learning day, allows small groups of students to gain exposure and insight into a variety of community host organizations. Volunteers are needed to chaperone students at several host locations. Click here to learn more and sign up. Please email Sasha Butler, Program Director, with any questions.


The League of Women voters recently held a forum at HCC on September 22 to continue their efforts to educate our community about the candidates for the many offices up for election on November 8. In case you missed it, please click here to access this recorded session.  

Conscious Capitalism of Central Maryland (C3MD) is once again organizing this year’s Ignite Howard County #7 at Jailbreak Brewing Company on Monday, October 24 from 5:30 to 8 pm. This high-energy event features 10-12 speakers to “enlighten us… but make it quick!” Speakers have 5 minutes (and 20 auto-advancing slides) to share innovations, stories, and ideas to educate, inspire, and/or delight. HCPSS seeks members for its Health & Physical Education Advisory Committees. Refer to each respective charter for more information.

Special Message 

Hurricane season has been quite destructive over the last few weeks.  Puerto Rico was among the regions heavily impacted by Hurricane Fiona. As you may be aware, Leadership's own Valerie Rivera-Maldanado is from Puerto Rico and has family still residing there.  Please click here to read a personal message penned by Valerie to highlight some of the ways relief efforts may be supported. Thank you in advance for your consideration.
