October 2014

Referral relationships can strike me as sketchy. Referrals are oftentimes a two-way street: You only continue to receive them from someone so long as you continue to give some back in return.

But how does that make for good patient care? Looking out for patients' best interests means sending our patients to resources that can provide the help they need, period, even if we get nothing in return.

In recent months, we have moved away from providing our own recipes to featuring recipes from some great chef services in the area. We made the change for two reasons, and two reasons only: (1) Some of our patients are looking for personal chef services and want to know their options, and (2) Whose recipe would you rather have: ours, or one from someone who can actually, you know, cook?

This month's recipe comes from Angela Whitford-Downing, owner and chef at Lovin' the Oven LLC personal chef services. Her business is growing like crazy and for good reason. Check out her seasonally-appropriate chicken with mustard apple cider glaze recipe!

He Said, She Said: Halloween Candy

Some parents give their children free reign with their Halloween candy, while others regulate their intake to varying degrees. What do we think is the most helpful course of action?

"Do you feel nauseous?" my mom asked. A loose definition formed in my childhood mind: Nauseous (adjective): Feeling completely gross from eating too much Halloween candy. Read More

She Said

The other day, Jonah told me about a local news story he had seen about a bunch of people who are now going to put signs on their front doors proclaiming that they are a "candy-free" house and that, as such, they will not be handing out any candy on Halloween this year. Instead, these individuals will be handing out small toys to the youngsters who come trick-or-treating to their door. Read More
