UK receives Military Friendly designation for 3rd

consecutive year

The University of Kentucky has been recognized as a Military Friendly School and Military Spouse Friendly School for the third consecutive year by Military Friendly. For more than 20 years, the Military Friendly Schools list has set the standard for higher education institutions to provide the best educational opportunities for veterans, their spouses and the military community. 


UK's Veteran Resource Center serves as a hub for veterans on campus, offering a wide range of services designed to facilitate a smooth transition from military to academic life. These services include academic advising, career counseling, mental health support and assistance with accessing educational benefits.

Innovation Update

UK Markey Cancer Center forges global alliance for cancer research

The University of Kentucky Markey Cancer Center helped launch the Global Cancer Consortium, an innovative partnership uniting top cancer centers across continents. The new group is advancing cancer research, education, and patient care to tackle one of the world's most pressing health challenges. 


The founding members included Markey, Mayo Clinic, Saroj Gupta Cancer Centre & Research Institute, Tata Memorial Centre, and Manipal Academy of Higher Education. 


Research collaborations fostered by the consortium have already led to breakthroughs in the lab, which have been published in more than 15 research articles.

Economic Engagement Update

UK Board: University must move quickly with partners

to advance health of state

The University of Kentucky should work with partners to become the institution that does more than any other in the country to advance the health of the state it serves.


Specifically, the resolution adopted by the Board of Trustees directed UK President Eli Capilouto and the campus to:

  • Develop a specific growth strategy aimed at responding to the health-related workforce needs and shortages in Kentucky.
  • Formally launch and expand statewide the Advancing Kentucky Together Network. This is the evolution of the academic health system’s affiliation model, applied not only to providers but to communities — their holistic health, workforce and education needs.
  • Formalize, launch and expand deeper connections with communities, the University, UK HealthCare and UK’s Cooperative Extension Service.
  • Develop the plan for a second Healthy Kentucky Research Building facility along with the talent necessary to support it.

Place Update

UK Robinson Center Field Day Week connects generations

to agriculture

More than 1,200 people in the local community, including producers, families and youth, participated in the recent Robinson Center for Appalachian Resource Sustainability 2024 Field Day Week. Part of the Mountain Ag Week celebration, attendees were able to engage in several events including Win with Wood, Youth Science Day, Pumpkin Day and Robinson Center Field Day.


The mission of the Robinson Center is enhancing sustainable livelihoods and promoting the flow of economic, ecological and social benefits from the land, natural resources and communities of Eastern Kentucky and the Appalachian region.

Partnership Update

UK’s Estate Whiskey Alliance™ organization announces founding members

The University of Kentucky’s initiative to highlight the advantages of local sourcing and sustainable production in the spirits industry has established a strong foundation with the announcement of the founding members of the Estate Whiskey Alliance™ (EWA) organization.


The EWA global consortium will support research and education in agriculture, manufacturing and sustainability to shape the future of estate whiskey production.


Estate whiskey refers to a type of whiskey that is produced entirely on the distillery estate using grains sourced from the estate and local to that site.

Meet the Team

Part of a monthly series to introduce the Economic Development Collaborative Leaders

Audrey Baricovich is the Program Coordinator for the Advanced Science and Technology Commercialization Center (ASTeCC) at the University of Kentucky where she works to support high tech small-business development. In addition to this work, she also assists the Office of Business Engagement in helping companies and organizations connect with the University.


Audrey is on the core committee of the UK Economic Development Collaborative. She also works closely with the Partnership subcommittee and the OneUK committee to further support strategic business-university partnerships at UK.


Audrey earned her Ph.D. in political science from the University of Kentucky, with a concentration in American Judicial Politics. She is a published researcher and served as a Teaching Postdoctoral Scholar at UK before transitioning to her current role with the department of Economic Development and Real Estate. Audrey is an Illinois native and received her undergraduate and associate degrees from Illinois State University and Moraine Valley Community College, respectively. Prior to her career in higher education, she worked as a certified athletic trainer at two high schools in Louisville, Kentucky.
