Wheels for Warmth + Halloween Parade
Our big week is almost here!
One of our busiest weeks of the year is just three weeks away. Don't miss out on the chance to join the fun!
The action starts on Thursday, October 28th with the tire drop off portion of Wheels for Warmth, which continues the next day, Friday, October 29th.

Then on Saturday, October 30th, we have our tire sale in the morning, which is always a good time. Community volunteers help tire shoppers, breakfast is served, a cookout is held for lunch, and tires fly out of the lot during the fast-paced sale that is full of energy.

Saturday afternoon, our focus turns to putting the finishing touches on our parade float - we've won top prizes in past years! - and getting lined up for the parade.
Wheels for Warmth
Wheels for Warmth was founded by Governor Phil Scott in 2005. Good tires are donated by community members and businesses, inspected by DMV, and placed in the yard organized by size to be sold. Junk tires cost $5 per tire to dispose of, and are placed in a junk pile to be sent out to be recycled. Once the tire collection is complete, we host a tire sale and the inspected tires are sold for between $15 and $30 a piece. All money raised is donated to BROC Community Action and Capstone to provide heating assistance over the winter months to folks in need.
The event is simple and what we consider a win-win-win. The 1st win is raising money to provide heating fuel to those in need, the 2nd is providing low-cost tires for people to get on their cars and trucks before winter, and the 3rd is keeping the environment clean and keeping roads safe by getting bad tires off the road and out of our streams.
Every year the event has grown and in 2019 we raised a record $65,000. We look forward to breaking that record this year!
If you can help out with this event, please contact Joe Casella or John Casella II.
Halloween Parade
Work has already begun on building our themed float for this year's Rutland Halloween Parade - but we need help to complete it! Dying to know what this year's theme is? Come join us for a build day, and get the scoop!

The parade space has been cleared out, and elements of the float are being crafted. Nicole and Jen started dying "Spanish moss" last week, and more craft projects were worked on this past weekend.
Flashback to 2019’s parade: The Cougar and the Kitten need your help again this year!

...for Eli, the painting machine!
There is still a lot of work to be done, and we need as much help as possible! If you are interested and available to help, please contact Nicole Webster.
We are looking forward to working as a team to have another successful year for both events.
These community events are an important part of who we are as a company, and we couldn't pull them off without the tremendous support we receive from all of you. Thank you for all of your help, see you in a few weeks!
September Good Catch Winners of the Month
Congrats, George, Paul & Mackenzie!
George Staples was doing a walk-around and noticed a brake line was leaking. By identifying this issue, George prevented possible brake failure, which could have caused a serious accident - especially considering the amount of power haulage deaths in the mining industry this year.
As Paul Ricard was performing his pre-trip inspection, he noticed that the trailer he was hooking up to had a bad slack adjuster. The rod had pulled out, so there would not have been a brake for that set of wheels. Paul then reported the item to the maintenance department to be fixed before operation.
While reviewing hours submitted to a client, Mackenzie Mahoney noticed that the hours did not match what our system reflected. Mackenzie sent the correct hours to the client, along with an explanation of why the initial submission was not accurate. The client was pleased with her efforts to ensure accuracy. (Mackenzie was rewarded with a $50 Visa Card vs. $100 for a Good Catch).
Congratulations George, Paul and Mackenzie! Thank you for your diligence, enjoy your gift cards!
Safety Topic: Driving Safely
When you are on the road, especially in a company vehicle, the expectation is that you will follow the rules of the road. Conduct yourself in a manner that will reflect both you and the company in a positive way.

We live and work in the communities that we travel through, and we should be invested in making a positive impact. Any time you are operating a vehicle or equipment in public, people will take notice (of both the good and the bad).

There will always be elements that we can't control; What we can try to do is make sure there is more good to observe, than bad.

Fishing Fun
Don & his grandson had a day to remember
Don Brown won a fishing trip with Fishing Pro Chris Adams, and took his grandson Jaden on the excursion over the weekend on Lake Champlain.
"I was joined by Don and his grandson Jaden for a day of fishing in the Champlain Islands. It was a cold and windy day but we had a blast and the fishing was pretty good as well. Don and Jaden both caught a bunch of nice Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass, and Don also landed a giant Northern Pike. Don also helped me fix an issue I had with my boat motor at the end of the trip - so a big thanks to Don for his help! All in all a great time with awesome people."

Chris Adams also participated in a few local fishing tournaments. Stay tuned to find out how he did!
