Did She Do It?

Lizzie Borden took an axe

And gave her mother forty whacks.

When she saw what she had done

She gave her father forty-one.

But did she

really

do it?

Storyteller Tricia Kelly brings Lizzie Borden back to life to tell the story you THINK you know, but have never heard.

A Customary
Funeral
Friday, 10 October 7 pm
If you were sent back in time to the year 1875, would you know how to prepare for and handle the passing of a loved one?
Would you know that you were supposed to help make the shroud?
Cover the mirror?
Stop all the clocks?
Sit with the deceased for a day and a night?
Would you understand why an hourglass was carved into their headstone?

Sit for a spell and let Mick Henneberry explain the customs and functions of Victorian funerals.

So, What's Your Story?
Life is made up of stories.
Some of them are sad.  Some are funny.  Some stories are 100% true and some have been exaggerated...And then there are those tales that come solely from the imagination.

Storytelling is a part of everyone; it's what connects us to each other. Sadly, stories are being lost in this, the age of instant.  With loss of stories, there becomes a loss of connection.

Whether you are a teller or a listener, join us for this monthly meeting of storytellers at 6 pm on the second Tuesday of every month.

The Terrifying Truth
of
Victorian Medicine
Friday, 17 October 7 pm

Ah, Victorian life.  Graceful.  Elegant.  Chivalric.  Deadly.

While you may pine away, dreaming of life in days gone by, there's something you should know first.

Tricia Kelly will bring to the forefront some astounding-and truly horrifying-information about the "science" of Victorian medicine.

Learn how to stop a cough with boiled mercury and laudanum, or how to lessen a child's fever by wrapping them in ice blankets and loading them with heroin.

You do NOT want to miss this!  (Please be advised:  this lecture presents graphic images and gruesome situations.)
