It seems fall has finally arrived!
Check out the FOL news for October.
Thanks!
Thank you to all FOL members who participated in the annual Staff Appreciation Luncheon! A special thank you to the Bulverde Area Rural Library District Board for providing the yummy desserts. The staff has worked so hard under arduous construction conditions and deserved recognition for their efforts!
Upcoming Events
Join us for great live music and beer, brats and other goodies at Octoberfest! This is our annual FOL Members Only Appreciation Event on Saturday October 27 from 6:00-8:00 PM. We will be serving award winning craft beer from the Guadalupe Brewing Company. They have graciously agreed for the 4 th year to donate a keg to us in support of the Friends and Mammen Family Public Library. Music will again be provided by the Beethoven Dance Band.
Bus Trips --Mark your calendars now for our upcoming FOL Bus Trips! We are planning a November 25 trip to All is Calm at the San Antonio Playhouse and a December 16 trip to San Antonio for the Holiday Pops. More information will follow. The meal at Aldino's for the Holiday Pops trip has been arranged, and we will be doing an early lunch at Luby's before the play for the November trip. Watch for sign-up and additional information.

Holiday Tea Cancelled
Unfortunately, due to the library expansion process, we will not host the Holiday Tea in 2018, but we are planning to have some FOL holiday surprises at the library during the holiday season.
Library Expansion News
October 17, 18 & 19 library members will have limited access to the shelves for browsing and computers at the library. A shelf moving company will be re-arranging our shelves in anticipation for the temporary walls the contractor will install in November. We have added additional computers at the Annex so people can use those if needed. We have already moved the computers and other furniture in preparation for the shelving move.

We had major issues with water coming in after the slab was poured on the west side but the contractor has since been able to seal most of the areas. We expect the north parking area, where the dumpster pad is, to be complete in the next few weeks.

We expect to have a lot less square footage at the library through the end of the project. The steel beams are being constructed in the front/west of the library and the contractor is demolishing as needed to begin construction on the back/east side of the library.

At some point we will lose access to the foyer area where the FOL sells books and where the circulation staff are currently located. We are trying to get a better idea of that date. We found out that the entrance we hoped would open in the front of the library is not going to be open any time soon. The contractor realized equipment would need to be passing across that area and that would be an issue with members using it. We are working with the contractor to determine what the phasing will be for the duration of the project and when we might get a closer entrance for those who struggle with the distance down the long hall.
