October 17, 18 & 19 library members will have limited access to the shelves for browsing and computers at the library. A shelf moving company will be re-arranging our shelves in anticipation for the temporary walls the contractor will install in November. We have added additional computers at the Annex so people can use those if needed. We have already moved the computers and other furniture in preparation for the shelving move.
We had major issues with water coming in after the slab was poured on the west side but the contractor has since been able to seal most of the areas. We expect the north parking area, where the dumpster pad is, to be complete in the next few weeks.
We expect to have a lot less square footage at the library through the end of the project. The steel beams are being constructed in the front/west of the library and the contractor is demolishing as needed to begin construction on the back/east side of the library.
At some point we will lose access to the foyer area where the FOL sells books and where the circulation staff are currently located. We are trying to get a better idea of that date. We found out that the entrance we hoped would open in the front of the library is not going to be open any time soon. The contractor realized equipment would need to be passing across that area and that would be an issue with members using it. We are working with the contractor to determine what the phasing will be for the duration of the project and when we might get a closer entrance for those who struggle with the distance down the long hall.
