Move Over, Larry! I Want a Spot!
A picture, burned in my memory. Seven courageous men having lunch on steel beam high over New York City in the 20’s. It spoke to courage, ambition and love of their trade. These seven men certainly had those qualities and unknowingly became a part of our country’s photographic history. It’s where men were made. Men’s work. Early risers, experts in their craft, “bringing home the bacon”. This was the “labor industry” picture held by myself and many as the buildings rose from the ground and time moved on.
Well, things have changed since then. Women have decided to have a career in the trades, join this great industry and change that picture. A similar photo today would include a few brave women on that beam sharing those baloney sandwiches and joking with co-workers.
At Lake Country, we are blessed to have Kaitlin Gunerius on our team of carpentry professionals. This ambitious young lady wanted a career change from her previous drafting position. Instead of drawing buildings she wanted to build them! And she is doing just that. Kaitlin is an industrious woman and quickly learning the trade and handcrafting her own vision. Meet her on the job and she will greet you with a smile. Watch her be a carpenter and you will walk away impressed!
All of us need role models to help us achieve. Good role models. They can help us get a clearer picture of what is possible and how to dream. By their decisions and actions, they can inspire. They don’t follow a blueprint, they create one. I’m sure Kaitlin, and all those she will inspire, will continue to “hammer out” the details that will allow them to fulfill their every dream.
Attagirl Kaitlin!
