Department of Commerce: National Advanced Packaging Manufacturing Program/ Advanced Packaging Research & Development (R&D) (2025-NIST-CHIPS-NAPMP-01)

Applications such as high performance computing and low-power electronics, both needed for artificial intelligence (AI), require leap-ahead advances in semiconductor advanced packaging. This Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) seeks proposals for R&D activities that will establish and accelerate domestic semiconductor advanced packaging through investments in five (5) R&D Areas:

1. Equipment, Tools, Processes, and Process Integration;
2. Power Delivery and Thermal Management;
3. Connector Technology, including Photonics and Radio Frequency (RF);
4. Chiplets Ecosystem; and
5. Co-design/Electronic Design Automation (EDA)

A non-Federal cost share over the lifetime of an award is strongly encouraged but not required. CHIPS R&D will give preference to proposals that demonstrate committed cost share in their Concept Paper and Full Application Project Narrative, Budget Narrative and Justification.

Eligible applicants may submit only one concept paper per R&D Area. Each concept paper may only include one R&D Area. Applicants may submit separate concept papers on different R&D Areas.

Oak Ridge Associated Universities: Ralph E. Powe, Jr. Faculty Enhancement Awards



These competitive research awards provide seed money for junior faculty members that often result in additional funding from other sources. Eligibility for the Powe Awards is open to full-time assistant professors at ORAU member institutions within two years of their tenure track appointment (January 1, 2023 to January 7, 2025) at the time of application.

Research must fall within one of these five disciplines:

ARPA-E: Inspiring Generations of New Innovators to Impact Technologies in Energy (IGNIITE) 2025

The objective of IGNIITE is to support and accelerate the transformative technical progress led by early-career scientists and engineers, a cohort that is often the source of disruptive innovations in research and technology. This program aims to empower early-career scientists and engineers to become independent researchers and unleash their creativity to develop disruptive energy technologies.

A second objective is to encourage these early-career innovators to focus their careers on tackling the substantial and urgent energy-related problems our society currently faces. In doing so, this NOFO will help ensure that the U.S. maintains its technological leadership in the development and deployment of advanced energy technologies.

Teagle Foundation: Cornerstone - Learning for Living

This initiative aims to reinvigorate the role of the humanities in general education, and in doing so, expose a broad array of students to the power of the humanities; help students of all backgrounds build a sense of belonging and community; strengthen the coherence and cohesiveness of general education; and increase teaching opportunities for humanities faculty. This initiative is dedicated to the proposition that transformative texts give students access to a wide range of lived experiences and form the basis for creating a common intellectual experience that fosters a sense of community and is crucial for the “participatory readiness” of citizen-leaders of our democracy.

DOE: Genomics - Enabled Understanding and Advancing Knowledge on Plant Gene Function(s)

This NOFO solicits applications to effectively design bioenergy crops by developing approaches to:

• a) understand regulatory elements, biological mechanisms and develop predictive models for dissecting multigene traits and their component parts that govern plant growth under different growing conditions, biochemical and signaling pathways;
• b) understand genetic components and molecular mechanisms underlying plant regeneration/organogenesis in tissue culture to improve heterologous DNA transfer to germlines of bioenergy crops; and
• c) understand genetic and molecular mechanisms that will reduce the cycle time for out-crossing energy crops (e.g. self-incompatibility) to speed development of new plant feedstocks underpinning a more broader and more competitive U.S. bioeconomy.

NEH: Sustaining Cultural Heritage Collections

This program aims to help cultural institutions preserve humanities collections through environmentally sustainable preventive care strategies to reduce energy consumption and costs as well as to strengthen institutional resiliency in the face of natural disasters.

This program offers three levels of funding:

• Planning - for institutions to develop and assess environmentally sustainable preventive care strategies in collection spaces.

• Implementation Level I - for institutions to implement environmentally sustainable preventive care projects that address specific, discrete preservation challenges that have been identified through an assessment.

• Implementation Level II - for institutions to implement environmentally sustainable preventive care projects that address large or multifaceted preservation challenges that have been identified through assessments and planning conducted by a multidisciplinary collaborative professional team appropriate to the goals of the project.

National Park System: Historic Preservation Fund - Save America's Treasures Preservation Grants

This program provides preservation and/or conservation assistance to nationally significant historic properties and collections. Preservation projects must be “nationally significant" - defined as project work performed directly on a resource that is:

• Individually designated as a National Historic Landmark or a contributing resource to a National Historic Landmark District; or

• Individually listed in the National Register of Historic Places for NATIONAL significance (not state or local significance) or a contributing resource to a historic district that is listed in the National Register for its national significance.

A listing or designation as “nationally significant” must be in place at the time of application.

Grants are awarded through a competitive process and require a dollar-for-dollar, non-Federal match, which can be cash or documented in-kind.

NASA ROSES 2024: Contributions to Ariel Preparatory Science

The Ariel mission is currently working toward a launch date in late 2029 with a subsequent 4-year prime mission. To meet the ambitious goal of observing and characterizing 1000 exoplanet atmospheres, the Ariel Science Consortium has initiated a comprehensive Ariel Preparatory Science Program that encompasses a variety of activities to provide the characterization, prioritization, and selection of targets that will be required to optimize science operations and advance to science goals of the Ariel mission. The US-CAPS program element is established to solicit proposals from the U.S. community for investigations that will complement the ongoing activities of the Ariel Science Consortium.

 Proposals must be science-driven and address compelling scientific questions in one or more of the foregoing areas within the context of the Ariel working group target lists associated with this call (see below). However, proposals must also describe how the scientific goals of the investigation support the preparatory science needs of the larger Ariel Preparatory Science Program. The degree to which the science goals of the investigation complement the activities of the Ariel Science Consortium and advance the needs of the Ariel Preparatory Science Program will be considered in the evaluation.

Research.gov Requiring Multifactor Authentication

Effective on Sunday, October 27, 2024, Research.gov will require mandatory use of multifactor authentication (MFA) for sign-in. All external users must first complete a one-time MFA enrollment process that will be available starting on October 27 and then use MFA to sign into Research.gov going forward.

Training resources, including how-to guides and frequently asked questions (FAQs), will be available on the new About Signing Into Research.gov page on Research.gov Help on October 27. This new page will assist the research community to quickly enroll in MFA and learn how to sign into Research.gov with the selected MFA method.
