Learn about Energy Efficiency and Take Action this Month

Each year, the U.S. Department of Energy designates October as Energy Action and Awareness Month.

Sunrise Good and Green creates a "checklist" which lists Ways to Save daily tips (with a link to learn more) for each day of October. By implementing these actions, homeowners can improve energy efficiency on a daily, weekly, monthly, and annual basis.

Sunrise BioBlitz Recap

Thank you to everyone that participated in the Parks For Pollinators 2023: City of Sunrise BioBlitz. This year Good and Green hosted a Sunrise BioBlitz Bingo on Saturday, September 9th at Sawgrass Sanctuary. We had 40 participants help identify plants and pollinators around the park. The Youth Environmental Alliance team educated participants on butterflies while UF Professor, Dr. Corey T. Callahan led guided eco-walks and taught residents about citizen science through iNaturalist. We are looking forward to BioBlitz 2024- coming next September!

Let's Chat About Bats

The week prior to Halloween each year is officially designated as Bat Week to celebrate the role of bats in nature across the globe. Did You Know? South Florida is home to 13 native species of insect-eating bats. One special species is the Florida Bonneted Bat, which is not found anywhere in the world except for South Florida and is classified as an endangered species. Bats are important to our ecosystem, and often misunderstood. To help protect your bat neighbors you can plant a garden, add a water feature, and/or install a bat house. For more information on why bats matter and how you can take action to help bats during bat week and beyond click here.

Celebrating SUN-tober with Solar United Neighbors

The Broward Solar Co-op 2023 is now open and accepting members!

We’re teaming up with nonprofit group Solar United Neighbors (SUN) to promote the Broward Solar Co-op 2023. The solar co-op will help area homeowners and small business owners learn about solar together and purchase solar panels at a group rate from a single installer.

Together, co-op members will learn about solar energy and leverage their numbers to get competitive pricing and quality solar installations. After a competitive bidding process facilitated by SUN, a group of volunteers from the co-op will select a solar company to complete the co-op's installations.

Joining a co-op does not obligate members to purchase solar or chargers. Instead, each member will have the option to individually purchase panels and electric vehicle chargers based on the installer's group rate.
