Did you know that the Greenbrier River Watershed Association board is 100% volunteer driven now? Our board members spent all day September 19th, working on a strategic plan to take our mission into the future. Thank you Appalachian Headwaters for allowing us to use an office at Camp Waldo near Hinton. We put our heads together for ideas, and then toured our board member's historic farm and river front, "Ferrell's Eddy". 1st photo L to R: Elizabeth Clark, Treasurer, Autumn Crowe, Vice-President, Board Members - Chris Chanlett, Deni Elliott, John Farrell, Laura Izzo, Louanne Fatora, and Kurt Johnson, President. The Spring freeze of 2026 eliminated a lot of the wild apple crop for bear along the Greenbrier river. They do eat spicebush fruit (spiceberries) which are rich in lipids and fats. Spicebush is a native shrub which grows in rich, moist, deciduous forest understories, along stream banks, and in floodplains. Pocahontas County.
