New Inquiries

 

  • 24 October 2022– Mr Anthony Schembri – HRNSW Stewards have commenced an investigation in relation to reports from the Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory (ARFL) that dobesilate has been detected in the following samples;

 

  • Pre-race blood sample taken from the horse ON WHEELS prior to Race 1, the ANDREWS HAULAGE & STOCKFEEDS PACE (1900 metres) conducted at Broken Hill on Saturday 29 January 2022;

 

  • Post-race blood sample taken from the horse KEAYANG BALBOA following its win in Race 1, the ANDREWS HAULAGE & STOCKFEEDS PACE (1900 metres) conducted at Broken Hill on Saturday 29 January 2022;

 

  • Post-race blood sample taken from the horse KEAYANG BALBOA following its win in Race 1, the BROKEN HILL MUSICIANS CLUB PACE (2210 metres) conducted at Broken Hill on Saturday 5 February 2022;

 

  • Post-race urine sample taken from the horse KEAYANG BALBOA following its win in Race 1, the BARRIER TRUTH PACE (2210 metres) conducted at Broken Hill on Saturday 26 March 2022;

 

The ‘B’ samples for the blood samples have been confirmed by the Laboratory of Racing Chemistry in Japan.

 

Inquiries Concluded

 

  • 11 October 2022– Mr Alex Ashwood pleaded guilty to a charge issued by HRNSW Stewards pursuant to AHRR 193 (3) following the withdrawal of STEVIE GEE from Race 2 at Menangle on Tuesday 16 August 2022 after it was established that the product ‘SWELL DOWN’ was present on the horse’s hind legs at the time of a raceday stable inspection.

 

HRNSW Stewards imposed a fine of $1,000.

 

Appeal Decisions

 

  • 12 October 2022– Mr Robert Ross withdrew his appeal against the decision of HRNSW Stewards to disqualify him for a period of 2 years and 3 months in relation to a charge issued by HRNSW Stewards pursuant to AHRR 218 following the death of the registered Standardbred HIGH ROLLING RENA on Friday 16 March 2018.


  • 21 October 2022– Mr Nathan Carroll appealed the decision of the HRNSW Stewards to disqualify him for life after he pleaded guilty to thirty-five (35) charges issued by HRNSW Stewards following an Inquiry regarding an investigation in relation to the treatment of horses prior to racing. In addition, the Inquiry related to the possession and supply of unregistered substances and/or prohibited substances.


By decision of the NSW Racing Appeals Tribunal, Mr Carroll was disqualified for a total period of 30 years.

 

Integrity Information

 

  • During the month of October 2022, HRNSW Integrity department obtained 931 Race day samples.

 

As per normal HRNSW procedure all samples have been submitted for analysis.
