October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Las Promotoras

A new documentary film

Join us for a special screening of a new, inspiring and deeply moving film that shines a light on our heroic Promotoras.

Las Promotoras Against Violence is produced by our partner and film director, Juan Escobedo, and features the courageous women of ELAWC’s pioneering Promotora program—survivors who have turned their trauma into a powerful force for healing and change.

By meeting women where they are—in their homes, families, and daily lives—Promotoras foster meaningful connections, educate, and inspire life-changing choices. Their impact is profound, and their stories will move and motivate you.

WHEN: OCT 3, 2025 | 6PM

WHERE: La Plaza de Cultura y Artes
501 N Main St., Los Angeles, CA 90012

This event is currently sold out; however, walk-ins will be accommodated on a first-come, first-served basis as space permits.

Take Action!

Wear Purple on Oct. 17

Each October ELAWC observes Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM). Created in 1987, DVAM connects communities across the nation to advocate for peace, honor survivors, and remember lives lost to domestic violence and intimate partner violence.

Let your voice be heard.

  • Wear purple on Oct.17
  • Walk with us on Oct. 23
  • Make a donation to support survivors.

Together we can change the cycle of violence in our community.

Request DV Training For Healthcare Providers

Healthcare providers are on the frontlines of identifying abuse, offering healing, and connecting individuals to life-changing support.

In 2014, ELAWC opened offices at the The Wellness Center on the LA General Medical Center campus, significantly improving response time, ensuring survivors receive immediate support.

ELAWC’s Domestic Violence Healthcare Toolkit, developed in collaboration with LA General Medical Center, equips medical teams with trauma-informed practices that can save lives.

👉 Join us in transforming care. Request our training today to prepare your staff to recognize abuse, create safe spaces, and connect survivors to critical resources.
