Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

October: A Month of Prayer, Life, and Faith

October is a beautiful month in the life of the Church, inviting us to deepen our prayer and renew our commitment to the dignity of every human life. Throughout the month, we turn in a special way to the Holy Rosary, while communities around the diocese also come together to observe Respect Life Month.

As the Month of the Holy Rosary, October offers us a special opportunity to draw closer to Jesus through Mary. With each Hail Mary, we are invited to contemplate the mysteries of Christ’s life and to place our hopes, concerns, families, and intentions into the loving hands of His Mother. The Rosary reminds us that prayer can transform our hearts and help us see the world through the eyes of Christ.

At the same time, Respect Life Month calls us to recognize and cherish the God-given dignity of every person—from the moment of conception to natural death. Across our diocese, parishes and ministries will mark this month through prayer, education, service, and opportunities to support and accompany those whose lives and circumstances call for our compassion and care.

These two themes beautifully come together: prayer and action, contemplation and charity, faith and love. As we pray the Rosary, may Mary teach us to treasure the gift of life and to respond to every person with the mercy, compassion, and love of her Son.

May this October be a month in which our hearts are renewed, our families strengthened, and our communities drawn closer to Christ.

Our Lady of the Rosary, pray for us.

May we always cherish and protect the gift of life.

Cindy, Rosario, and Beth

October 10 is World Mental Health Day

A global opportunity to bring greater awareness to mental health and encourage compassionate support.

Mental Health Ministry Toolkit is here!

October provides a special opportunity for Catholic communities to make mental health ministry more visible and intentional. Throughout the month, parishes can create opportunities for prayer, education, compassionate listening, accompaniment, connection to appropriate resources, and the development of ongoing mental health ministry.

CMHM offers this toolkit to help Catholic leaders move from awareness to accompaniment and from accompaniment to action. You do not have to organize a large event. Choose one or two actions that fit your parish and begin there.

St. Faustina

Feast Day - October 5

On her feast, make St. Faustina's

prayer your prayer too

Saint Faustina prayed with great trust for souls, knowing that God wanted them to be saved even more than she did, and knowing also that souls do actually depend on our prayers for the grace they need to accept salvation from Christ. Her feast should be a time to make her prayer our prayer, and to ask her intercession for us and for the whole world.

Month of the Holy Rosary

On October 7th, the Church celebrates the feast day of Mary, Queen of the Holy Rosary. The feast day was established by Pope Saint Pius V on the anniversary of the victory at Lepanto on October 7, 1571. The naval victory was attributed to the Virgin Mary whose intercession was entreated through the recitation of the Holy Rosary.
