A Message From Our Senior Pastor
Dr. Joe Giaritelli
Dear Lawndale Family,
Thank you for all the love and support that you have showered on me after announcing my retirement at the end of this year. The Word of God explicitly tells us to honor our mother and father in Exodus 20:12, Deuteronomy 5:16, Matthew 15:4, and Ephesians 6:2, 3. I am no exception and I must step up and honor God’s Word and my mother. As I’ve shared in the past, her personal needs have escalated over the last six months. I consider it a great blessing to be able to assist her in whatever capacity that I can. I have watched so many of you give sacrificially to care for the needs of your parents. Thank you for being such godly models and examples. I am very blessed to have a wife that treats my mother as her own.

Meanwhile, the work of the Kingdom of God continues. I look forward to seeing what God will be orchestrating over the next few months. The sermon series on “Joseph” speaks loudly to all of us. One thing that we all know, GOD IS GOOD!
Dr. Joe

LJG Restart—Medical Science is seeing that children are not carriers of the virus. We are anticipating reopening our LJG classes soon. Thank God for his care and faithfulness during these unprecedented days.
Share the Change! Support The Pregnancy Network—This baby bottle collection campaign for The Pregnancy Network (formerly, Greensboro Pregnancy Care Center) is running from Sept. 20-Oct. 4. Pick up a baby bottle in the lobby. Pray for this wonderful life saving ministry and fill the bottle with silver coins, dollar bills or checks made out to “The Pregnancy Network.” Return the bottle to the lobby by Oct. 4. During these Covid days the needs of this ministry are even greater.
Operation Christmas Child, October 11-November 15—Samaritans Purse plans to collect over 11 million gift-filled shoeboxes worldwide this year. Through these shoebox gifts, the Gospel is shared with children in over 120 countries. This is the year for individuals and families to pack one or more shoeboxes, as group packing parties are not possible. One lady, turning 50, plans to pack 50 boxes. Pick up your box and information brochure in the lobby beginning Oct. 11. Please carefully follow the instructions in the brochure. Return your boxes by Nov. 15. Focus on packing shoeboxes filled with QUALITY items. Your box becomes a witness for the Gospel.

October is such a great month to see God's glory in nature. I'm hoping that all the summer rain will translate into beautiful fall colors that are a beautiful witness to God's creative genius. We've all had to be creative these past few months and God has guided us so well as individuals and as a congregation. Now that we are headed in the direction of returning to church, the Senior Adult Ministry Team is prepared and preparing for God's creative future. There are great days ahead!

Chick-fil-A Family Nights: Chick-fil-A has graciously invited us back for Family Nights the third Thursday of each month, beginning this month on Oct. 15 from 5:30-8:00pm at the Brassfield location. This year, we will not be able to fellowship with one another inside, but as you go through the drive-through, please tell the attendant that you are with Lawndale Baptist Weekday. They will donate 15% of your sales to our school, which is used to help purchase needed materials for the children.
Attractions Dining Books: We will be selling Attractions Dining Books this month. All proceeds from this sale are donated to the Marion and Doris Ellis Weekday Scholarship fund. We are so grateful for this fund that enables several families in need of a helping hand to send their children to a Christ-centered preschool. To purchase a book, please contact Martha Stone at or 336-282-4177. Each book is $20.

A Note from Pastor Nathan Wallace: Lawndale family, what a blessing it has been to serve as your Community Development pastor for all these years. I thank the Lord for you, my brothers and sisters. Your love for God and passion for kingdom work, and the way you have loved me and my family is something I will always remember and cherish. May our Father continue His amazing purpose in and through you at LBC, and we will see you again! Soli Deo Gloria!
Life Chain 2020: Sunday, Oct. 4, 2:30-3:30pm, Battleground Ave. between Oakcrest and Elam (Krispy Kreme). Please do not park in the shopping center lot. You may park on either Elam or Oakcrest. Hundreds of Christians will line the sidewalks along Battleground Avenue to silently pray for the church, our communities, and our nation concerning the issue of abortion. Please join in this holy privilege to express God’s heart regarding abortion and be a positive, effective witness to a culture that has become numb to the reality of abortion and the pain it causes women. Jimmy will have signs for the event. Meet him in the Krispy Kreme lot prior to the Life Chain.

Fall Spectacular: Due to COVID-19 and the restrictions that we are currently under, we have decided to cancel Fall Spectacular for 2020. This has been a difficult decision to make but we feel that it is the best decision we can make at this time. However…we do have an opportunity for you to share Christ with your community at home this Halloween! A “Fall Spectacular: Home Edition” kit will be available for pickup beginning Sunday, Oct. 18 in the Worship Center lobby. This kit will include a bag of candy, a Lawndale logo t-shirt, Ministry cards with church information, and John 3:16 bracelets. An email will go out to the church in early October explaining this opportunity in detail. Please pray about your participation in “Fall Spectacular: Home Edition”!

This year, because of COVID-19, we will again present: THE AT HOME EDITION of the Candlelight Coffee - YOU can set a Holiday Table (Thanksgiving or Christmas) for dessert and coffee or tea in YOUR OWN HOME! Host it by yourself or share the fun with the participants. Invite a small group of neighbors, co-workers, LJG friends, little girls or women of all ages—anyone you would like to treat specially around your table. Because of COVID guidelines, it needs to be a SMALL group. I would recommend about 6, and you will need to follow the social distancing recommendations, of course.

  • Anytime from OCTOBER through DECEMBER—any evening, afternoon or morning!
  • Providing an inexpensive holiday favor of your choice is absolutely optional this time.
  • Rather than providing you with the topic of conversation and a written devotional this year, you will be talking about the experiences each of you have had over the last 6 months and how you will be celebrating the holidays this year. I know everyone will have something to share with each other.
  • Take a picture of your decorated table and one of your group, if they agree— we’ll post it on our Women’s Facebook page so others may be inspired by your creativity! Please feel free to write something brief about the decorations, food or fellowship of the event to describe the pictures you send.
  • Send to

Especially this year, you will not be able to borrow decorations or linens from the church. Remember! this is the AT HOME EDITION of the Candlelight Coffee!! This is a chance to use your own beautiful china, crystal and silver, or paper products!! Let PJ know you are planning to host a table, when & where ( See website leader for complete instructions.
WOM: Our Women on Mission groups will not meet in October, but will work together on a joint mission project! We will be collecting new kitchen and bath supplies for a “Basket of Hope” to be given to local ministries who serve those recovering from homelessness, battered family situations and addictions. Please call our Director, Fran Brown (336) 292-8508, if you have any questions about our groups or about this project.
Women’s Bible Studies: Precepts and WWW have begun. Please contact Phyllis Postma, 336-855-1100 (WWW) and Marjory Martin, (336) 938-4576 (Precepts) if interested in attending. We ask that you please follow the social distancing guidelines by entering and exiting the building promptly and limiting use of the facilities as we consider that everything must be continually disinfected.

This will not prevent us from continuing to lift our voices and praise to God as we remember and celebrate the birth of Christ this Christmas season!
