Have you wanted to start searching for your ancestors but didn't know where to start? The Genealogy group meets at the library once a month and new members are always welcome! The group is made up of family historians interested in sharing resources and tips to accurately find their ancestors while helping others with their search.

Stars & Lights: Lighthouse Photography

Have you ever visited a lighthouse at night? Our neighbor from North Kingstown, David Zapatka certainly has! As the Director of Photography for the United States Lighthouse Society, he's approaching his 250th lighthouse he's visited at night to document them for future generations to appreciate. Many lighthouses are now being divested by our government, are being decommissioned, and turned off before being captured at night on film.

Walking Rhode Island w/ John Kostrzewa

Wednesday, Oct. 18th- 6:00pm


Join us for a special evening with John Kostrzewa, author of his new book, Walking Rhode Island: 40 Hikes for Nature and History Lovers with GPS Coordinates, Photos and Trail Maps. John Kostrzewa writes the "Walking Rhode Island" column for The Providence Journal and has been hiking across the state for years. Copies of the book will be available.

Ghost Gear in Narragansett Bay: Results & Lessons Learned in 2023

Did you know that discarded, lost, or abandoned fishing gear, also known as ghost gear, can have wide-ranging impacts on our marine environment? We'd love for you to join us and learn about the results of our first removal and recycling activities. We'll answer your questions and share our plans for next year's project activities in the Bay and the ports. This event is presented by The Commercial Fisheries Research Foundation.

Machine Guns in Narragansett Bay: The Coast Guard's War on Rumrunners

Thursday, Oct. 26th- 6:00pm


Historian Christian McBurney will discuss the Coast Guard's excessive use of force against rumrunners in Narragansett Bay and other Rhode Island waters during Prohibition. He will also be available to sell and sign his new book, Machine Guns in Narragansett Bay, the Coast Guard's War on Rumrunners.

Tuesday Matinee: Practical Magic

We'll be celebrating Halloween with our favorite witches in Practical Magic (1998), inspired by the book by Alice Hoffman.

 

Sally and Gillian Owens, born into a magical family, have mostly avoided witchcraft themselves. But when Gillian's vicious boyfriend, Jimmy Angelov, dies unexpectedly, the Owens sisters give themselves a crash course in hard magic. With policeman Gary Hallet growing suspicious, the girls struggle to resurrect Angelov -- and unwittingly inject his corpse with an evil spirit that threatens to end their family line.

Halloween Jar Art

Tuesday, Oct. 10th- 5:00pm


Kids & teens ages 7-18 are invited to come make a Halloween Mason Jar. We will use mod podge and tissue paper to make the outside, and use markers or stickers to decorate a jack o' lantern face, ghost, bat, or whatever you like! Registration is required beginning 9/26.

Halloween Fun Hour!

Saturday, Oct. 14th- 11:00am



Kids ages 6-14 are invited to enjoy everything Halloween themed: games, fun show and tells, drawing, plus lots of prizes and giveaways for all who attend! Mrs. Adams has many cool toys and gadgets that you won't want to miss! Enjoy a bit of magic and get a sweet treat at the end. Registration is required and begins on 9/29.

Outdoor Movie: Hocus Pocus!

Thursday, Oct. 19th- 6:30pm


All ages are welcome to join us for Hocus Pocus (1993,PG) outside on the library lawn! We will have hot chocolate and apple cider donuts! Please dress warmly, bring your own blankets and beach chairs! In the event of bad weather, we will have the movie inside the Program Room. Registration is required beginning 10/3.
