The October birthstone’s dramatic play-of-color has inspired writers to compare it to fireworks, galaxies and volcanoes. Bedouins once believed opal held lightning and fell from the sky during thunderstorms. Ancient Greeks thought opals bestowed the gift of prophesy and protection from disease. Europeans long maintained opal to be a symbol of purity, hope and truth. Hundreds of years ago, opal was believed to embody the virtues and powers of all colored stones. (GIA.edu)

Yellow Gold Suite Trans to White Gold Set
Having received a 3 piece suite of yellow gold jewelry as a gift, this client did not care for the dark 22 karat color and only wore white gold jewelry. Additionally, she was hoping to add some diamonds, to coordinate with her existing diamond earrings and pendants. She also preferred only the star necklace, over the bracelet and earrings, as a piece she saw herself wearing. So the "makeover process" began! 4 new white gold bars were cast and set with diamonds, to be centered at the front of the necklace, with links removed from the back, to better fit the client's
throat. All of the stars on the necklace were high polished to a bright finish, to give a contrast between the bar stations, which had a brushed finish. The entire necklace then received a white rhodium plating to change the stars and remaining bar links to white!
Deciding to give the bracelet & earring set to her daughter, and since the daughter likes to mix both white and yellow gold in her jewelry wardrobe, the stars were high polished to a bright finish and rhodium plated white, to make the "pop" and give a drastic contrast between the bar stations, which remained in brushed yellow gold, mixing color + texture. Now mother & daughter can each enjoy their distinctive new pieces!

Father to Daughter Ring Makeover
After the passing of her beloved father, this client wished to continue wearing his gold & gemstone ring but found the men's ring style too bulky to wear every day. The smoky topaz gemstone was gently unset from the yellow gold ring and a classic ladies style, 4 prong white gold mounting, was sourced to fit the gem perfectly. The topaz was reset in the new mounting and with the former yellow gold setting being applied in value against the new setting and labor. The client now enjoys wearing her father's ring every day.

Bracelet to Earrings & Pendant Set
An old rope bracelet containing opal gemstones (the October birthstone!) had sat in a drawer for decades when the owner inquired about transforming it. The opals, in their existing 4 prong gold basket settings, were gently cut away from the rope bracelet, and small findings were laser soldered to the mountings, to transform these gems into a matching set of earrings & pendant. The gold from the rope bracelet was applied as a credit towards the parts + labor, with the client being very satisfied to have new pieces of jewelry to wear!

After designing a new upgraded wedding anniversary ring, this client was unsure what to do with her original engagement ring from 25 years ago. Should she put it away and save for one of her children? Or transform it and enjoy wearing it in the meantime? The answer was the latter and Diamonds On The Key set about unsetting the diamonds from the original ring and laying them out in a necklace pattern, that could be layered with other pendants, for every day wear! Clean, modern bezel settings were chosen in 14 karat white gold. The original gold ring setting was applied as a credit towards the labor. The result was a happy client, still able to enjoy her original sentimental engagement ring in a new way!
