Millwright Local 1192, Mammoet Industrial Services tackle Gulf Coast airport expansion that represents series of firsts
Travel to oceanside communities in Alabama and the Florida Panhandle has increased tremendously in recent years, and millwrights from Local 1192 are helping expand the Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport to accommodate the growth.
Contractor Mammoet Industrial Services and Local 1192 millwrights have been working at the airport since April as part of a $20 million project that includes a terminal expansion, new baggage-handling system, an additional ticketing counter, and more. Mammoet is handling all the millwright work in partnership with Local 1192.

Get to know Robert Strickland, a new business agent for Local 1263
Robert Strickland, a former Marine and an eight-year member of Local 1263, which covers Georgia and the Carolinas, began working as a business agent for that local in September.
Strickland said he will draw on his experiences in the field to help him as a business agent. “When things don't go exactly right, it's not always your work partner,” he said. “Sometimes you’ve got to realize there are things you need to correct with yourself. So being able to adapt and interface with the members and build rapport with the contractors, kind of being that median, I think will be a strong part of continuing 1263’s success.”

Carpenters' Helping Hands provides grant to Local 1554 member whose home was flood damaged
Flood waters rose so quickly on Aug. 21 in Waverly, Tennessee, that Michael T. Davis had to escape his home by climbing through a window and into his boat, which the water had pushed against the house.
The Waverly flood killed 20 people and damaged hundreds of homes when 17 inches of rain fell in a short time span.
Davis, a member of Millwright Local 1554 who works for partnering contractor Palmer Tool in Camden, Tennessee, had been trying the repair the damage himself. On Oct. 1, Southern States Millwright Regional Council EST Wayne Jennings presented Davis with a $10,000 check from the Carpenters' Helping Hands program.

Local 1263 member Jessie Patterson has achieved goals quickly in her millwright career and has discovered a passion for helping others do the same.
Finding the millwright trade after leaving the military in 2012 took Jessie Patterson several years, but she’s been on a fast track ever since. Patterson joined Millwright Local 1263 in Georgia in 2016, topped out of the apprenticeship program in 2018, and accepted a full-time position as the millwright training coordinator at the Savannah training center in 2020.
“I have had the opportunity to track Jessie’s career from when she first joined the apprenticeship to her journey through it,” said Logan Brown, Eastern Region director of the Southern States Millwright Regional Council. “She has completed every goal that she has set for herself and has done well on every project she’s been on. Jessie has taken ownership of the Savannah millwright apprenticeship program and brings energy and a fresh perspective to the program.
