Fall Into Wellness

October is Emotional Wellness Month, making it a great time to check in with ourselves and consider the everyday habits, connections, and resources that support our overall well-being. Just like the changing seasons, wellness isn’t about staying the same—it’s about recognizing what we need, making adjustments, and giving ourselves room to grow.

This month, we’re highlighting ways to support your mental and emotional wellness, sharing a closer look at our Hearts+Minds program, celebrating the incredible conclusion of Step Up to Prevent Suicide, and bringing you more opportunities to connect with NAMI Fond du Lac County and our community this fall. 🍂

We Stepped Up!

undefined

What an incredible four weeks! Our 2026 Step Up to Prevent Suicide campaign has officially come to a close, and we are so grateful to everyone who walked, ran, moved, fundraised, donated, sponsored, and helped spread awareness along the way.

Together, our participants logged an amazing 10,206.46 miles and raised $3,405 to support NAMI Fond du Lac County!

Every mile moved and every dollar raised helped shine a light on suicide prevention while supporting our mission to provide free mental health education, support groups, outreach, advocacy, and community programming throughout Fond du Lac County.

And the Winners Are... 🏆

After four weeks of some friendly competition, congratulations to our 2026 Step Up award winners!

Most Team Miles: Nuns On The Run — 790 Miles

Most Individual Miles: Jake Berger — 172.1 Miles

Top Fundraising Team: Board to Be Wild — $2,350

Top Individual Fundraiser: Kim Miller — $1,050

Best Team Name: Charity Chicks

Most importantly, thank you to every participant, donor, sponsor, and supporter who made this year’s campaign possible. Whether you logged hundreds of miles, shared your fundraising page, made a donation, or simply helped start a conversation about mental health and suicide prevention, you played a part in making Step Up a success.

We may be done counting miles, but we’ll keep stepping up for mental health and suicide prevention all year long.💚

October is Emotional Wellness Month

Emotional wellness is an important part of our overall health. It’s not about feeling happy or positive all the time—it’s about being able to recognize and understand our emotions, cope with life’s challenges, build supportive relationships, and know when we may need a little extra support.

Emotional Wellness Month is a great reminder to check in with ourselves and pay attention to the habits that help us feel our best. Small things like getting enough rest, staying active, connecting with others, setting healthy boundaries, making time for things we enjoy, and asking for help when we need it can all contribute to our well-being.

This October, we encourage you to take a moment to ask yourself:

What do I need to feel well?

The answer may look different for everyone—and it may change day to day.

Program Spotlight

Mental and physical health are more connected than we sometimes realize. That’s why this Emotional Wellness Month, we’re highlighting

NAMI Hearts+Minds—a free 5-week educational program designed to help people living with mental health conditions better understand and care for their overall health.

Hearts+Minds focuses on practical ways to support both mental and physical well-being. Participants explore topics such as nutrition, physical activity, sleep, managing medications and side effects, working with healthcare providers, and developing healthy habits that are realistic and sustainable.

The goal isn’t perfection or making huge changes overnight. It’s about gaining knowledge, identifying what wellness looks like for you, and taking small steps toward feeling your best—both mentally and physically.

Like all NAMI Fond du Lac County programs, Hearts+Minds is offered at no cost to participants.

Interested in attending an upcoming Hearts+Minds program?

All are welcome! This session is being hosted at Pilgrim United Church of Christ, but NAMI Hearts+Minds is not faith-based and is open to everyone in the community, regardless of religious affiliation.

October Togetherness Event

Healing Bonfire

Join us for our October Togetherness Event—a Healing Bonfire! Spend a relaxing fall evening around the fire while connecting with others and taking a little time to slow down, reflect, and recharge.

We’ll have simple mindfulness and reflection activities available. And because no fall bonfire is complete without something sweet, we’ll also have a s’mores bar to enjoy!

Like all of our Togetherness Events, this gathering is about creating opportunities for connection and supporting our mental well-being in a welcoming, low-pressure environment.

Bring a lawn chair, come as you are, enjoy the warmth of the fire, and spend an evening connecting with your community.

Saturday, October 17th

6:00pm - 8:00pm

Breezy Hill Campground

Mental Health Tip of the Month

Give Yourself a Wellness Check-In

We’re often quick to ask others how they’re doing—but when was the last time you really checked in with yourself?

Wellness isn’t just one thing. Take a few minutes this month to think about different areas of your well-being and ask yourself:

  • Emotional: How have I been feeling lately? Am I giving myself space to recognize and process my emotions?
  • Physical: Am I getting enough sleep, movement, nourishment, and rest to support my body?
  • Social: Do I feel connected and supported? Is there someone I’ve been meaning to reach out to?
  • Mental: What has been taking up most of my mental energy? Do I need more time to recharge or set a boundary somewhere?
  • Personal: Am I making time for things that bring me joy, meaning, or a sense of accomplishment?

You don’t need to improve everything at once. Choose one area that could use a little more attention and identify one small, realistic thing you can do for yourself this week.

Sometimes wellness starts simply by noticing what you need.

What We've Been Up To

September gave us some wonderful opportunities to connect with our community, have a little fun, and continue conversations around mental health and emotional well-being. Here’s a look back at a few of the highlights!

Inside Out Movie Day

For our September Togetherness Event, we gathered at the Fond du Lac Public Library for a family-friendly showing of the movie Inside Out! Along with popcorn, candy, and some cozy movie-watching, participants had the opportunity to learn more about emotions and how each one plays an important role in our lives.

Families also received a NAMI-exclusive activity book designed to help kids—and adults!—practice naming emotions, noticing how they feel in our bodies, and choosing healthy ways to respond.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for a fun morning of connection and emotional wellness!

YScreen's Suicide Awareness Month Summit

We were grateful to take part in YScreen’s Suicide Awareness Month Summit, where we connected with attendees at our resource table and led a breakout session with participating youth. It was a meaningful opportunity to share mental health resources, engage young people in important conversations, and help increase awareness around mental health and suicide prevention.

Recovery Unfiltered Stigma Awareness Event

NAMI Fond du Lac County was proud to participate in Recovery Unfiltered, a community event focused on breaking down stigma, celebrating recovery, and connecting people with treatment and support resources. We joined other local organizations at the resource fair to share information about NAMI’s free programs and supports and help remind our community that recovery is possible and support is available.

Thank you to the organizations and community partners who came together to make Recovery Unfiltered possible and create a space for hope, connection, and conversations about recovery.

March the Horicon Marsh

We took Step Up on the road with March the Horicon Marsh. Participants joined us for an evening of movement and connection. We caught a beautiful sunset on the horizon of the Horicon Marsh all while helping us continue the conversation around mental health and suicide prevention.

Thank you to everyone who came out and marched with us!

Marian University's Student Involvement Fair

We were excited to spend some time at Marian University’s Student Involvement Fair, connecting with students and sharing information about NAMI Fond du Lac County, our free programs and support groups, and mental health resources available in our community.

Opportunities like these help us meet people where they are, increase awareness of available support, and remind students that they don’t have to navigate mental health challenges alone.

Thank you to Marian University for welcoming us!
