Pre-Covid, I ate lunch at McDonald’s. (I know, it was a bad habit) My 2 burgers, small fry and large Coke was $5.01 Easy to remember since I typically used a 5-dollar bill and a penny. Since Covid, I bring my lunch almost every day. Yesterday I went to McDonald’s for lunch, same order $8.27
Many years ago, my dad gave me a cartoon of the President of IBM asking who used a 27-cent stamp for a letter that only cost 24 cents. One of the office workers replied, “you run a billion dollar company, why do you care about 3 cents?” He replied, “I don’t understand a billion dollars, but I understand 3 cents”
What value is there in paying more for what you need? That cartoon I mentioned makes me smile as I remember “the lesson” I learned with it. You have heard it many times “you get what you pay for”. Value might mean keeping, or getting a Lysine manufacture to build a facility in the United States. Many people forgot the meaning of value and are paying for it now.
Speaking of US Lysine manufacturers, the proposed FuFeng Lysine facility in Grand Forks, North Dakota is running into all kinds of issues. Currently, there are only 4 Lysine manufacturers in United States. 3 of the 4 have foreign owners: Ajinomoto, Japan; Evonik, Germany; CJ America, South Korea; ADM, United States. It will be interesting how this plays out.
We need to remember, United States does not make enough Lysine, Threonine, Methionine or Tryptophan for the needs of our nation. Because of this we are relying on imports.
