Aurora's Youth Services Team is here to save the day during fall break

School’s almost out for fall break and who are you going to call? The city of Aurora Youth Services Team! Check out the variety of programs that we have to keep school-age children busy during their week-long break.


For Children Ages 7 to 12:

Day Camps at Central, Moorhead and Southeast recreation centers.


When: Monday, Oct. 14 to Friday, Oct. 18, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.


Cost: $48 ($38 Resident) per day

Additional Option: Half-day slots are still available for Minecraft Engineering camps at Expo Community Center, 10955 E. Exposition Ave. Learn more and register at AuroraPros.org/esportsprograms.


For Teens Ages 13 to 18:

Aurora teens can access recreation centers for FREE during fall break.


When: Monday, Oct. 14 to Friday, Oct. 18, noon to 7 p.m.


Where: Central, Moorhead and Southeast recreation centers.


How: Teens are free to drop in anytime during the times and dates listed above. Youth must check in at the front desk and provide a brief membership profile to receive free admission.

Join us for the 2024 Veterans Salute

The city of Aurora’s annual Veterans Salute is back for 2024! This year’s event will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., on Wednesday, Nov. 6 at the Hyatt Regency Aurora-Denver Conference Center, 13200 E. 14th Place.


This annual event will feature musical performances, a ceremony with the Buckley Color Guard and a sit-down lunch. Tickets are now on sale for $15 per person until Sunday, Oct. 25.

Prairie Restoration Project takes home prestigious award

The Prairie Restoration Project at the at the Plains Conservation Center, 21901 E. Hampden Ave., was recently nominated and selected to receive a Blue Grama Award for Outstanding Achievement in Ecological Restoration or Recreation Management at the 2024 Colorado Open Space Alliance conference in Grand Junction. This will be the first time the city of Aurora has been recognized for its work in ecological restoration! 


The Prairie Restoration Project is an ongoing initiative designed to restore relationships between people and nature. Volunteers are needed year-round.

Embrace the great outdoors and get your hands dirty by doing tasks like removing non-native invasive plant species, planting native prairie plants, monitoring wildlife and collecting data as part of a research experiment.


No experience is required! All volunteers must be ages 12 and older. Shifts take place in the mornings every Thursday and select weekends. There are no restrictions when it comes to how little or often you can volunteer.

Native American Dancer Showcasing dances to a captivated audience
The Southeast Recreation Center and Fieldhouse Reb3l Community Shows Off Some Fun Dance Moves.

Join us to experience Native American dances and songs of the Great Plains this fall.


Denver Native American Dance Troupe (DNADT) presents an entertaining and educational experience of a lifetime. Every performance is supplemented with stories of origin for the different dance styles and explanations of the regalia. DNADT provides enlightenment to help build awareness and unity among cultures and people by educating those willing to learn.


When: Saturday, Oct. 12, 5:30 p.m.


Where: Plains Conservation Center, 21901 E. Hampden Ave.


Who: All ages

The mornings are getting chilly, but you can still warm up outdoors with Reb3l Strength and Groove combo classes. Break out of your boring gym routine with choreographed toning routines set to powerful music. All fitness levels are welcome, no dance experience is needed.


When: Saturdays, 8:15 to 10:15 a.m.


Where: Southeast Recreation Center and Fieldhouse: 25400 E. Alexander Drive.


Who: Ages 16 and older


How: This program is available to anyone who has a recreation center membership or day pass.

Each of our recreation centers have their own amenities and specialty programs, but the Aurora Center for Active Adults (ACAA): 30 W. Del Mar Circle is unique because its primary purpose is to build a community base for older Aurorans.

Relax and unwind while you connect with nature with vinyasa flow yoga at the Aurora Water-wise Garden, 15151 E. Alameda Pkwy. Join us from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 15 for an evening yoga practice.


Vinyasa yoga offers a challenging yet accessible practice for beginners and experienced practitioners looking to build strength, balance, endurance and flexibility, while also cultivating mindfulness and inner peace through breath and movement. Classes are $6 per person.
