Our life together

See how good, how pleasant it is for God’s people to live together in unity! It is like precious oil on Aaron’s head running down on his beard,  running down to the collar of his robes. It is like the dew of Mount Hermon, falling on the hills of Zion. For that is where Yhwh bestows the blessing—life that never ends. Psalm 133

Dear members and friends,

This month brings us many opportunities to “live together in unity" ...

  • memorials for beloved members
  • an ordination and a wedding
  •  blessing the animals
  • a workshop to learn skills to protect our voting rights and the rights of the vulnerable
  • a Learning Lab bake sale to support their upcoming Breakfast Run
  • a potluck dinner to celebrate the garden harvest
  • the annual Halloween Hoot for our nursery school students, and
  • our annual congregational meeting.

If we look at this solely as a to-do list for a few short weeks, it can surely feel stressful. But when I look at this list in the context of Psalm 133, I see exactly what is promised – God's blessing for a vibrant community – “life that never ends.”

I pray that as we make our way through the highs and lows of our “life together" this month, we will do so “in unity,” caring deeply for one another through it all.

May it be so.

Our deepest sympathy

In mid-September, we received word that Nick Herring had suddely passed away. Words cannot express our grief and our sympathy for all who love him.

Nick was the son of our long-time members Linda and Hubert Herring, brother to Emily, and friend to many. His South Church involvements including being a member of the Kitchen Garden, serving on the steering committee of Roots & Wings, and as a curator of The Donald Gallery.

His friends have set up the Nick Herring Memorial fund to create a lasting tribute to Nick on South's campus. Learn more/donate here.

Please join us on Sunday, November 15, for his Memorial Service.
