We're "Falling" for MECK Pre-K
Last month, MECK Pre-K students, teachers and staff came back to school with new COVID-19 safety measures. As the fall continues, our students have been busy learning and growing. Here are some learning moments from our MECK Pre-K centers and classrooms.
MECK Pre-K teacher Ms. Grant shared this photo of herself so her students could get familiar with what her face looks like in a mask.
"What can you see with a magnifying glass?" Recently, our students explored a new "view" of their world by engaging their scientific curiosity skills.
"What sounds do we hear at school? What are the rules at our school? How do we make friends?" These are a few of the focus questions from a learning web in one of our classrooms.

Message From the Executive Director
We understand these are challenging times for everyone in our community. We are working hard to keep our students, families, and staff safe while providing high-quality education for our children. Watch this video to get the latest updates from MECK Pre-K Executive Director Trinisha Dean.
MECK Pre-K is Still Taking Applications
MECK Pre-K is still taking applications for the current school year! While we have lifted the income eligibility requirement, priority is still being given to families with a household income that is at or below 400% of the federal poverty level.

Find out if you qualify for MECK Pre-K by answering two simple questions:

  • Do you live in Mecklenburg County?
  • Will your child turn four on or before August 31?

If you answered “yes” to both questions, you can apply to MECK Pre-K! Visit our Enrollment Page to download an application and learn more.
Community Outreach
MECK Pre-K was at WOW Supermarket with Atrium Health, La Coalicion and others on October 3, handing out masks and information about MECK Pre-K.

If you are a community partner interested in having MECK Pre-K at an upcoming event, contact Anabel Paniagua-Doyle, MECK Pre-K Community Outreach Recruiter, at [email protected].

Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month
September 15 - October 15
September 15 - October 15 is Hispanic/Latino Heritage Month! This month celebrates the contributions, cultures, traditions and histories of American neighbors whose ancestors are from Hispanic/Latino countries.

MECK Pre-K celebrated by recognizing the cultures, customs, and backgrounds of our employees. We have featured our Hispanic/Latinx employees as well as famous Hispanic figures throughout the month. This photo shows a display wall in the MECK Pre-K offices.
October is National Domestic Abuse Awareness Month
Every October, advocates across Mecklenburg County come together to raise awareness about domestic violence. This month provides an opportunity to educate the community on the pattern of abusive behaviors that alter the lives of too many of our neighbors, friends and families. It is a time hold events in memory of those who have lost their lives at the hands of their abusers, and to celebrate all survivors of intimate partner violence.
