October

By Robert Frost

O hushed October morning mild,

Thy leaves have ripened to the fall;

Tomorrow’s wind, if it be wild,

Should waste them all.

The crows above the forest call;

Tomorrow they may form and go.

O hushed October morning mild,

Begin the hours of this day slow.

Make the day seem to us less brief.

Hearts not averse to being beguiled,

Beguile us in the way you know.

Release one leaf at break of day;

At noon release another leaf;

One from our trees, one far away.

Retard the sun with gentle mist;

Enchant the land with amethyst.

Slow, slow!

For the grapes’ sake, if they were all,

Whose leaves already are burnt with frost,

Whose clustered fruit must else be lost—

For the grapes’ sake along the wall.

Now is the time - according to Charlie Parker. Thanks for making this special project possible!

Dear Friends

On October 3, I will head to Vienna and assume my role as Professor of Artistic Research at the Jam Lab Music University. Several exciting projects are already in the making - check the calendar below. Europe musician friends, contact me for gigs and projects, I look forward to making music!

I'm honored to have one of my compositions included in the new collection New Standards: 101 Leadsheets by Women Composers next to all my Sheroes, compiled by Terri Lyne Carrington and her team at the Berklee Institute for Jazz and Gender Justice. Here is the New York Times feature on the groundbreaking work . The collection is published by Berklee Press and my composition is "Just Another Day at the Office" from the 2018 Sheroes album, voted as one of the best albums of 2018 in DownBeat and featuring Ada Rovatti, Jami Baum, Leni Stern, Reut Regev, Ingrid Jensen, Jennifer Vincent, and Rosa Avila.

Congratulations to Terri Lyne Carrington and her team on this amazing accomplishment!

Thanks to everyone who pre-ordered the Both Sides of Joni album - the Kickstarter is still open until October 3, here is the link. Anything raised beyond our initial goal will go towards the rather large licensing fees of the music. We are in the mastering stage with a projected release date of March 2023 and the US release tour in April 2023.

Enjoy the cooler Fall days and the Autumn Leaves and our WFYI Small Studio Session below!
