A Message From
The Executive Director
As COVID-19 continues to impact our lives, we remain steadfast in our commitment to building on our history of resilience and determination to respond to the growing and unprecedented need in our community.
In the next few weeks, we will roll out a 3-year strategic plan with dedication to growth and new job creation as well as increased diversity and inclusiveness to be more representative of the communities we serve.
We have enhanced our employment services with the designation of individualized case management support that allows for more focused job service and employer relations. We’ve extended our reach into Adams County where we provide day labor to unhoused residents and connections to other Bayaud programs and community resources. With our reach into other surrounding counties and with the expansion of our programs and services, we are seeing a dramatic increase in need for mobile shower and laundry services. Over the next few months we will be reaching out to Bayaud supporters to ask for additional support to purchase a second Shower Trailer and a third Laundry Truck.
I am also pleased to share that in order to ensure staff and client safety, our offices have undergone substantial renovation and reconfiguration, giving us a productive work environment where we can best serve our community.
As always, I want to thank our community partners and donors for the generous support as we work together to create Hope, Opportunity, and Choice, for our communities’ most vulnerable residents.

October Is Disability Employment Awareness Month
|
|
|
Bayaud is proud to celebrate our employees at the VA Hospital. Our dedicated employees staff the switchboard, the mailroom, and the patient transport department.
Our folks work tirelessly to ensure that patients, visitors, and staff at the VA receive the utmost care and attention.
|
|
Now in its 75th year, and led by the U .S. Department of Labor, National Disability Employment Awareness Month seeks to educate people about disability employment issues, celebrate the contributions of workers with disabilities, and foster a more inclusive workforce. Work gives individuals a sense of contributing, belonging, and purpose while providing financial benefits. Individuals of every ability have the right to job opportunities they find to be meaningful — at fair pay.
Did you know that employment of adults with disabilities benefits business and government with less turnover, increased productivity, access to a broader pool of skilled workers, and reduced government spending for and medical and disability benefits? For adults with disabilities, employment means greater economic self-sufficiency, an opportunity to use their skills, and more active participation in community life. Susan Boles
Driving Her Way To Self-Reliance
Susan Boles never thought she would be homeless. But circumstances out of her control led to living in her pickup with her dog, Blue. She was looking for work and ideally wanted a job where she wanted to go to work, a job with a purpose. Then she found Bayaud and was connected with the Denver Day Works program. Denver Days Works provides day labor with same day pay for unhoused individuals. She now works part time with the
clean-up crew in RiNo and as a driver on the Laundry Truck. “I wake up now and I want to get to work.”
She enjoys the physical labor and is getting stronger every day. “The Day Works crew is a good group, and they make the work fun.”
Susan appreciates her boss’, Cindi Chapman, patience and understanding, and values her advice on numerous topics. “It’s like a family here. I know they’re there for me.”
Susan knows that her it’s her past experiences that enable her to connect with clients and she embraces the role. One of her first laundry clients was a woman who hadn’t had a proper shower for several months, only “spit showers,” as Susan calls them.
“She was crying when she came out of the shower. I was glad we could help her.”
|
|
Another laundry client had lost all hope, according to Susan. He was in a wheelchair and felt there were few options for him, but Susan stepped in, referring him to Bayaud’s other employment services. “I understand hopelessness, but that man left with hope.”
With the help of one of Bayaud’s employment specialists, Susan will be moving into her own apartment shortly. What’s the first thing she’ll do when she moves in?
"I'm going to take a long hot bubble bath!"

We continue to operate the Food Pantry on Thursdays from 11-3 p.m.
With COVID-19 still persisting, the need for emergency supplies has increased dramatically.
Please consider donating canned goods, cereal, peanut butter/jelly, tooth paste, tooth brushes, deodorant, laundry soap (pods), socks, bar soaps, travel size shampoo and conditioner. We also have a tremendous need for feminine hygiene products.
As the weather turns colder, warm clothing such as coats, hats, and gloves are also appreciated.
Have some extra time on your hands?
We need volunteers to help with the Food Pantry. Contact: [email protected] for more information.
