In a place like Grand County, tourism goes a long way to sustain the community. From the lakes and rivers to the mountains and valleys, and all the wide open spaces in between, visitors from all over the world find great pleasure in exploring our home here in Middle Park.
Happy

. Enjoy these fading days of fall before the snow comes! (It's about time to give your skies a once-over to make sure they're ready for the season!)

Sept 25
:
September is almost over, fall is here, and we're gearing up for the winter. The streets emptying from the summer crowds, businesses are adopting their mud season schedules, kids are back in school, and hunters are in the woods. It's a quiet time in Grand County, and as the great Western author Wallace Stegner says, it's another fall, another turned page.
Our conservation work never ends; it just moves inside for the winter.

Happy Autumn! Out here (for some) that means haying, baling, and getting ready for the snow!
The change of season also means that annual monitoring is wrapping up, just as the temps (and leaves) are dopping! Here's a beautiful fall monitoring photo from the McElroy Ranch easement taken by Audrey Volt, our dedicated monitoring consultant and Grand County local!

:
Happy Wednesday, and happy
#worldwatermonitoringday
! To celebrate, a short quote from Audrey Hepburn, stating something we all know but sometimes don't recognize: water is life, and clean water means health.
Health not only for us humans, but for all the flora and fauna around us - health for the earth and all its systems. At the land trust we protect land specifically proximal to our valuable rivers and creeks and streams. This ensures the water flowing in Grand County is clean and healthy, and that health flows on down, all the way to the Sea of Cortez.

:
It's for views like these that we do what we do. You wouldn't know it, but the Spring Valley Ranch easement is only 70 acres, and combined with the Rusty Shovel Ranch easement as well as the thousands of acres otherwise conserved just other the hill by other land trusts, we have a large, landscape-scale conservation area before us. It's all private land (and doesn't even touch the national forest), owned by individual ranchers who value their place as a home, as a business, and as an area that deserves to be conserved, protected, and consciously stewarded in perpetuity.

|
Sept 11
:
People conserve their land for many reasons, one of which being a semblance of safety: being surrounded by nature, nature protected in perpetuity by CHLT, can give a landowner a peace of mind, a feeling of security from knowing their land will never - can never - be developed or subdivided. That the flora and fauna extant to our region of Middle Park can continue to thrive and survive in their habitats, and can continue to migrate through their corridors, brings joy to many landowners and lovers of nature in our area.
