Dear Friends,

October has been a busy month at Community Teamwork as we continue our work and grow our programs to serve the needs of many in our community.

We were so pleased to see how many of you came out to our recent screening of Who We Are: A Chronicle of Racism in America, as part of our continued Diversity, Equity and Inclusion initiatives. We look forward to working with many of you to bring this film to your communities and organizations. Please see the post below for more information.

Our upcoming November 9th Evening to End Youth Homelessness, in partnership with Lowell Mayor Sokhary Chau, will bring many of us together again to raise awareness of youth homelessness in our community and raise funds to support our Youth Opportunity Center and Youth Services. If you have not purchased tickets yet, please see our links included in this newsletter. We look forward to another fun night at Mill No. 5, made possible by the many sponsors listed below.

Please remember, Sun Santa applications are open October 30th for one week only and Toys for Tots applications are open November 1st for one week only. Please be sure you visit our website for more information.www.commteam.org.

This newsletter provides more information on these events as well as our spotlight on Hispanic leaders in our community for Hispanic Heritage Month, our Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon, and updates on many of our programs.

As always, thank you for your continued support.

Respectfully Yours,

Karen Frederick, CEO

We want to thank the more than 150 Community Leaders from Lowell and the surrounding towns who came out to view our Community Screening of Who We Are: A Chronicle of Racism in America by Jeffery Robinson, former ACLU Deputy Legal Director, Harvard Professor, and social justice advocate.

The film, which Board President Sheila Och introduced, along with our Board Vice President, Aleksandra Tugbiyele, chronicles Jeffery's groundbreaking talk on the history of anti-Black racism and explores the enduring legacy of white supremacy and our collective responsibility to overcome it. CEO Karen Frederick and Chief Program Officer Carl Howell facilitated a compelling discussion with Jeffery Robinson after the film.

Our audience, which included community leaders, elected officials, police officers, educators, municipal staff, and media, was asked to sign a Racial Equity Pledge to commit to continuing anti-racist work. The response was more than we could have asked for! Thank you to our Board of Directors and leadership for bringing this important film to our community and to the DEI Consortium for their inspiration by first bringing this film to our attention.

Please visit https://thewhoweareproject.org/, click on the image above for more information about the documentary. If you are interested in learning how you can provide a screening to your audience, or learning more about the Racial Equity Pledge, please reach out to Ann Sirois.
