Pacific Institute Amplifies Global Water Action at High-Level Events During UN General Assembly and Climate Week

The 78th Session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) held in New York during September presented a powerful opportunity to mobilize action on the global water crisis. The Pacific Institute's thought leadership and convening power were central to do so.

Building on momentum from the UN 2023 Water Conference, the Pacific Institute joined business leaders, public servants, change makers, and civil society representatives from all over the world.

Conversations were inspiring as the Water Resilience Coalition’s 2030 ambition, a CEO-led initiative, was recently chosen as the water target for the newly launched Forward Faster initiative. Forward Faster aims to speed private sector action in 5 targeted Sustainable Development Goals for the biggest, fastest impacts across all 17 SDGs.

Stay tuned for an upcoming blog written by Pacific Institute President Jason Morrison on key takeaways and next steps.

Water Resilience Coalition Announces Women + Water Collaborative

Women in rural India are instrumental in water collection, yet they're often sidelined in decision-making processes around water resources. No single organization can tackle this challenge alone. This week, we celebrate the launch of Women + Water Collaborative: a flagship corporate collective action program to improve access to clean water and sanitation.

The collaborative seeks to elevate women's leadership in fortifying water resilience and ensure equitable access to water resources. It brings together industry leaders Gap Inc., Cargill, and GSK with partners WaterAid America and the Water Resilience Coalition—an initiative between the United Nations Global Compact and the Pacific Institute.

This initiative builds on the success of the previous USAID Gap Inc. Women + Water Alliance, which empowered over 2.4 million people to improve their access to water and sanitation in India between 2017 and 2023.

Pacific Institute Partners with Water Research Foundation for a Project to Transform Stormwater into Enhanced Water Supply

Stormwater has long been viewed as a liability, yet it presents significant opportunities to augment and diversify water supplies. Capturing stormwater offers multiple benefits- from improving water quality and reducing flood risks to augmenting water supply. Moreover, depending on the stormwater capture strategy employed, it can also deliver numerous community benefits.

The Pacific Institute is proud to collaborate with The Water Research Foundation on a pivotal project titled 'Establishing a Framework for Integrating Stormwater Capture into Water Supply Planning.' The research will emphasize stormwater capture units (SCU) geared towards water supply enhancement with the primary goal being the augmentation (or offset) of current supplies through both potable and non-potable means.
