The fall months in Houston give us an opportunity to elevate some of Vision Zero's most important tenets: education, enforcement, and engineering. Riding a bicycle to commute is rapidly shifting from being a nuance for the elite to being a healthy norm for all of us. Houston Police Department's Chief Art Acevedo has been leading the charge to enforce traffic safety for school children and all shared road users.
As the BAC approaches its third year, we encourage more residents to participate in conversations about bicycle facility best use, practices, and future elements we want to see developed. We also encourage community members to apply to serve on the Bicycle Advisory Committee. Applications will be reviewed through the month of October.
We've gotten here because we've brought more conversations, ideas, and perspectives that help keep our wheels turning. Please continue to share your vision with us in person, by phone or via social media. We're listening, learning, and getting into gear together.
Phase 1 of the Spring Branch Trail Project will begin construction by the end of 2019 or in early 2020 along a CenterPoint easement, connecting three schools with safe crossings and neighborhood access points.
