Breast Cancer Awareness Month
A message from our Women's Health Connection team:
GET SCREENED TODAY!
The Women’s Health Connection (WHC) program administered by Access to Healthcare Network provides FREE breast and cervical cancer screenings and diagnostic services to low-income women who are uninsured or underinsured (cannot afford the cost of care). Thanks to the generosity of WHC providers, Nevada women who meet specific qualifications may be eligible to receive
FREE cervical and breast cancer screenings at no charge.
Women's Health Connection covered breast services:
  • Clinical breast exams: An exam of the breast done by a doctor to find lumps and changes in the skin.

  • Mammogram: An x-ray picture of the breast. Mammograms are the best way to detect cancer early before it causes symptoms.

  • Diagnostic Mammogram & Ultrasound after an abnormal screening result: A diagnostic mammogram may include more x-rays than the original mammogram. An Ultrasound can be used to look at a specific breast area.

  • Care Coordination Services: After any abnormal findings, a Women’s Health Connection care coordinator will help you navigate through your care until you obtain your diagnosis.

Telemedicine regulation more aggressive now than before the pandemic?
Telemedicine exploded in popularity after COVID-19 hit, but limits are returning for care delivered across state lines.
That complicates follow-up treatments for some cancer patients. It also can affect other types of care, including mental health therapy and routine doctor check-ins.
Over the past year, nearly 40 states and Washington, D.C., have ended emergency declarations that made it easier for doctors to use video visits to see patients in another state, according to the Alliance for Connected Care, which advocates for telemedicine use.
U.S. Hospitals Under Strain as ER Wait Times Lengthen
There are not enough beds to go around and pronounced staffing shortages. As a result, folks may languish in emergency room hallways for hours and leave without seeing a doctor as the skeleton staff tends to patients who are waiting to be admitted. And this situation has only gotten worse during the COVID-19 pandemic.
