Greetings!

It is the beginning of Autumn around here, and with it, the changes have already started to happen. Though, all the seasons have their charm, Autumn is one of my favorite seasons because of the sudden firing explosion of colors. I believe it's nature's way of saying good night, right before going dormant for the winter...

As you probably know, in October, we celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness month and there are always events planned to promote it. One of these events is IN THE PINK, a regional art exhibition at the Six Summit Gallery in Ivoryton, CT, and my sculpture Awareness was juried in!
I'm so happy every time I get the chance to showcase this piece, as it not only brings an important message to all that see it, but it allows me to spread the message on Dense Breast Tissue, and how the current technology does not detect cancer cells in those types of breasts. Please read HERE.

If you're near by, don't miss our opening this coming Friday, 7pm, at the Six Summit Gallery in Ivoryton, CT (details below). It's going to be a fun and uplifting exhibition and you won't want to miss it!

Lately, I've been busy creating new artwork to show at the upcoming City-Wide Open Studios. We'll have our opening at ArtSpace gallery, early this Friday, at 5pm (details below) and I'll have the rest of my works at Erector Square, (Building 5, Second floor) the weekend of October 13-14.
So look for me there!

Classes have started at my studio. For your information, I have two great classes for kids: a Little Artists class for 4-7 years old, and a Young Artists class for 8 to 12 years old. For adults, I have a wonderful group eager to learn more about Encaustic painting, and we meet Mondays, in the late afternoon. I also have a Ladies' Night Out with our Art Journaling classes on Wednesday nights. The perfect class for those who have never done art but want to do something different and fun!

I have also put together a Life Drawing group of artists that meet Monday mornings to draw from a model. This sessions have no instruction, as it is designed for those artists/students who want to share the expense of the model, so they can loose their hand at drawing the human figure.

All of these classes are on an on-going basis and there are still some spots left in all of them, so contact me if interested. Please visit my blog HERE and click on the appropriate tab on the top of the page. I'm also available for private instruction and consultations.

For those who have done encaustic but want more, and continuing with my guest artists workshops at my studio... Pennsylvania artist Lorraine Glessner is coming this month to teach her fabulous way to use mixed-media encaustic and mark making techniques. There are only a few spots left in her class, and you won't want to miss this unique opportunity. Sign up now before it's too late!! Please click  HERE to learn more about this workshop.

Stay healthy and enjoy the beauty of the season,

Hope to see you aROUND in one or more of the exhibitions listed below,

UP-COMING ENCAUSTIC WORKSHOPS
MIXED-MEDIA ENCAUSTIC & MARK-MAKING
with visiting artist from Pennsylvania, Lorraine Glessner
Saturday, October 20, Sunday, October 21, and Monday, October 22
10:00 to 4:00 each day, at my studio.

Lorraine Glessner
This workshop takes the exciting combination of fiber and encaustic far beyond straightforward collage to include innovative materials and mark-making techniques. Working on wood, paper and fabric, participants will explore the mark-making possibilities of rust and compost printing as well as branding (creating marks and patterns with fire, heated metal tools and objects). With an emphasis on mixed media, participants are encouraged to respond to these marks utilizing various encaustic techniques as well as other media. Participants will also combine encaustic with the textural possibilities of heated Tyvek fabric and papers. The heating of this polyester-based material with an iron or heat gun renders it malleable, thus creating highly textured and sculptural surfaces in combination with encaustic, other collage materials and stitch. Other materials covered in this workshop include the layering possibilities of instant indigo (freeze-dried indigo dye) and drawing with horse and human hair. Open to those with an intermediate to advanced level of encaustic experience, participants are encouraged to step out of their current comfort zone by a series of thought provoking exercises designed to increase their ability to create, see and respond to mark-making, to utilize a variety of styles and media, to draw intuitively and to integrate this new information creatively. A slide lecture discussing the historical and contemporary applications of encaustic, fiber and mark-making will be shown.

Cost: $340.00 + $25.00 Materials Fee
