2021 AWARDS FOR EXCELLENCE HONOREES
This year, El Pomar recognized three outstanding organizations and four individuals around the state for their service to the communities of Colorado. Organizations received $30,000 merit grants, and individuals received $10,000 merit grants to an organization of their choosing.

1ST ANNUAL JULIE PENROSE AWARD CEREMONY HONORS THE LATE MARGOT LANE
August 12, 2020 was the 150th birthday of El Pomar co-founder Julie Penrose. In her honor, the Trustees established on that date a yearly award to be presented on Julie’s birthday each year highlighting outstanding women who, like her, have made (or are making) significant contributions to their communities through leadership, engagement and service.
 
The first ever award was presented on August 12, 2021 to the late Ms. Margot Lane. Margot was an energetic and committed booster for the community, and El Pomar Foundation and its Trustees couldn’t be more proud to acknowledge her as the inaugural recipient.

EL POMAR WELCOMES FELLOWSHIP CLASS OF 2021
The seven 1st Year Fellows began their Fellowship on July 19, 2021 representing seven schools in three states with degrees in communications, international studies and many additional disciplines. Learn more about the 1st Year Class and their backgrounds and programs below.
NONPROFIT EXECUTIVE LEADERSHIP PROGRAM RETURNS IN-PERSON
In September, 23 nonprofit leaders from around the state gathered for the Nonprofit Executive Leadership Program (NELP), a partnership between El Pomar and Center for Creative Leadership, in-person in Colorado Springs after a year of virtual programming. NELP trains nonprofit CEOs and executive directors to effectively manage and lead extraordinary nonprofit organizations. It is a customized leadership development program offered to Colorado nonprofits through two unique programs: NELP 4.0 and NELP 2.5.

PENROSE HERITAGE MUSEUM CELEBRATES ITS 80TH ANNIVERSARY WITH NEW EXHIBIT

EL POMAR FOUNDATION IN 7TH PERCENTILE NATIONALLY FOR FUND PERFORMANCE

As of June 30, 2021, investment indices show that El Pomar Foundation ranks in the 7th percentile nationally, among 627 foundations reporting, for its total fund returns. With a 33.5 return rate for the year, El Pomar’s investment fund performed among the best of its fellow private foundations around the country.
ROCKY MOUNTAIN TAX SEMINAR
El Pomar Foundation hosted its 12th Annual Rocky Mountain Tax Seminar on September 15-17, 2021. Designed to update and inform managers and trustees of private foundations about the ever-changing tax laws that affect private foundations, both virtual and in-person meetings were held at Penrose House.
FELLOWSHIP CLASS OF 2022
The application for the Fellowship Class of 2022 is now open. El Pomar Foundation encourages applications from recent college graduates with a passion for leadership, dedication to self-improvement and a desire to invest in the communities of Colorado. Please consider sharing information about this transformational experience with your network. Applications are due January 10, 2022
INTERNSHIP
El Pomar's Internship is a unique summer program that introduces continuing undergraduate students to the nonprofit sector while supporting their professional development. Interns work with and are mentored by El Pomar's leadership and staff as well as other leaders in philanthropy. Applications are due February 11, 2022.
POLICE FOUNDATION AND EL POMAR CO-HOST MEDAL OF VALOR EVENT
The Police Foundation and El Pomar co-hosted the annual Medal of Valor event on September 23, 2021. Over 36 Colorado Springs Police Officers were honored for their bravery and commitment to community both in and out of the line of duty.
