LAURA MAE (COYHIS) HOM INDUCTED INTO PROBY ROOM
On August 21, Laura Mae (Coyhis) Hom was recognized and inducted into the Milton E. Proby Cultural Heritage Room at Penrose House. Known for her tireless service to Native communities, she is remembered as a true servant leader for the people of Colorado.
16 NONPROFIT LEADERS RECEIVE TRAINING
A customized leadership development program hosted and facilitated by the Center for Creative Leadership, El Pomar’s Nonprofit Executive Leadership Program (NELP) was held from August 19 to August 22. The program trains nonprofit CEOs and executive directors to effectively manage and lead extraordinary nonprofit organizations. A big congratulations to our participants!
EL POMAR WELCOMES MEMBERS FROM NEW ZEALAND PARLIAMENT
In September, El Pomar and the American Council of Young Political Leaders welcomed a delegation of members of Parliament from New Zealand. They joined Fellows, state and local officials to discuss government structure and legislative issues and explore the natural beauty of Colorado.
FELLOWSHIP ALUMNI CAMPING TRIP
Over a late weekend in September, current Fellows and Alumni gathered to reconnect and celebrate the Fellowship’s unique relationship with the Colorado Outward Bound School. Fellows participate in Outward Bound courses as part of the program's leadership development curriculum.
LEADERSHIP PLENTY
Organized by El Pomar's Emerging Leaders Development program, Leadership Plenty is a two-day intensive training focused on developing leadership qualities and skills. Thank you to our 2019 participants!
10TH ANNUAL ROCKY MOUNTAIN TAX SEMINAR
The Foundation hosted the 10th Annual Rocky Mountain Tax Seminar for Private Foundations at Penrose House in late September. The seminar focuses on the changing tax laws that affect private foundations in their work to support our communities.
2019 AWARDS FOR EXCELLENCE
El Pomar celebrated 30 years of Awards for Excellence with the annual reception in late September.
Dick Monfort, Chairman and CEO of the Colorado Rockies, received the Ben S. Wendelken Trustee Award.

Sarah Hirshland, CEO of the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee, received the Lifetime Achievement in Sport Award.

Congratulations to Early Milestones Colorado, High Valley Community Center and Silverton School District these three organizations received Awards for Excellence for their outstanding work supporting Colorado communities!

STAFF UPDATES
Maureen Lawrence
In September, former Fellow Maureen Lawrence joined the Foundation as Senior Vice President, General Counsel, and Director of Community Programs. In this role, she manages the legal affairs of the Foundation and provides strategic leadership for the Regional Partnerships program.
Daniel Guna
The Foundation hired Daniel Guna in September as Personnel Administrator. He succeeds Debbie Howard who will retire in January.
Matt Nu ñ ez

Matt Nu ñez, Fellowship Class of 2017, left the Foundation for a position as Economic Development Specialist for the City of Glenwood Springs.
EXPERIENCE COLORADO
Over the summer, our staff enjoyed a day to "Experience Colorado" and take in all that this wonderful state has to offer. From Crested Butte to Breckenridge, staff explored many Colorado communities.
