Chelsea Bradway: Be a Lady They Said
Hanover Theatre, Worcester, MA
Through December 11
Chelsea Bradway: Be a Lady They Said
at The Hanover Theatre

Bradway’s photographs capture unique images of female empowerment in a challenging age. In Be a Lady They Said, women of different ages and races were invited by the artist to bring important personal objects into her studio and to pose for black and white portraits in a stark, simplified environment. The monochromatic, bare setting sets off the joy and confidence radiated by the subjects, and their diversity of strength, power, and presence.

Our exhibitions at The Hanover Theatre now have regular gallery hours, 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Visitors to the Franklin Square Salon are required to reserve free tickets in advance. Please review The Hanover Theatre's public safety protocols before your visit.

Stories to Share
Jaffrey Civic Center, Jaffrey, NH
Everyone has a story! The Monadnock region is full of remarkable people with unique stories and experiences. The Jaffrey Civic Center is excited to announce that, starting this fall, it will be hosting a monthly speaker series on the first Friday of each month, October to May, titled “Stories to Share.” Each program will begin at 5:00 PM, with a reception starting at around 6:15, with light refreshments. The series, which begins on Friday, October 1, is made possible through generous support from our Exclusive Platinum Sponsor Belletete’s, Inc.

Our first speaker will be Jaffrey resident Tory McCagg. Her talk is titled Growing Chaos, Healing Soil, Sowing Hope: Life at Darwin’s View. Tory will discuss her memoir and the path she took which led her to her unique lifestyle. She will share how things are going these days at Darwin’s View and what she envisions for the future. The talk will also focus on her life choices and their parallels to the world at large while emphasizing the themes of change, adaptability, and hope.

Tory McCagg holds an M.F.A. degree from Emerson College, where her thesis and novel, Shards, won the Graduate Dean’s Award. In 1999, “Roots”—an early chapter from her novel Bittersweet Manor—was a semifinalist in the New Millennium awards VIII contest. In 2015, Bittersweet Manor was awarded a silver medal for Contemporary Fiction by Independent Publishers. In June 2020, she published her memoir, At Crossroads with Chickens: A “What If It Works?” Adventure in Off-Grid Living and Quest for Home.

These programs are free of charge, however, to help support this event and others like it, donations are appreciated. Advance registration is strongly encouraged.

Mini-Grant Program
Arts Alive!, Keene, NH
Give Your Project a Boost!

Arts Alive! proudly announces new a mini-grant program aimed at artists and creative businesses in the Monadnock Region. Applications for mini-grants of $50-$250 will open September 1. Grants will be aimed at and awarded to projects that help artists or creative businesses expand their professional abilities or increase how many people they can reach with arts experiences.

“We’re going to be really flexible with how this money can be used,” says Executive Director Jessica Getler. “Supplies for a project, marketing your work, a short term studio rental, getting work framed, booking time in a recording studio or performance space, hiring a babysitter and ordering takeout for several nights so you can focus on a project, gas for your car to get to a series of gigs, attending a workshop - whatever it is that will help you move towards the next level.”...

Call for Artists
Exploded View Call for Art
Great Falls Discovery Center, Turners Falls, MA
Exploded View is curating a community art exhibit in November 2021 at the Great Falls Discovery Center in Turners Falls, MA. The theme of the show is Repair. Exploded View is a poetry-performance-art collaboration of local artists and writers, and their Call for Art asks fellow artists to consider the following:

In this second pandemic year, it feels essential to perform maintenance and repair individually, and in community. Art work for this show may reflect on processes of mending, reconstruction, redemption, fixing, rebuilding, healing, and transformation. What strategies for individual and collective maintenance can be articulated by devoting ourselves to repair?

Two and three dimensional works will be considered for the show, as space allows. The exhibit in the Great Hall of the Discovery Center will run from November 6 to December 1. Associated programming during November is planned in connection with the exhibit, details to come in October.

To apply, please send an email with image files (up to three submissions per artist) to [email protected] by October 25. A statement about how your work relates to the theme is highly desirable, but not required. Be sure to include your full name, address, and telephone number.

Selected artists will be notified by October 30. If accepted, work will need to be dropped off on Thursday, November 4 from 10 a.m. to noon and picked up Wednesday, December 1 between 10 a.m. to noon. Find ExplodedViewMA on Facebook and at the Exploded View blog.
