President/CEO John Fowler
Longtime advocate Natalie Gubb, who passed away last year, was a cherished supporter of Peoples' Self-Help Housing.  This month, along with other affordable housing organizations, I was honored to help recognize her legacy as Mercy Housing California named three San Francisco properties - Natalie Gubb Commons - in her honor.

Originally from Massachusetts, she came to the West Coast to attend UC Berkeley School of Law and in 1993, she and partner Scott Barshay founded their law firm to specialize in helping nonprofits develop and finance affordable housing. Her tenacity and no frills approach were legendary; her mentorship of budding and longtime executive directors as selfless as it was straightforward.
Without the incomparable efforts of Natalie acting as our attorney, PSHH would not be the organization we are today. She was instrumental  in the creation of California's low-income housing tax credit program, which has been the building block of nearly all affordable housing since that time, and was renowned for the hundreds of real estate deals she transacted throughout the state. We all loved her dearly, she was brilliant, she was a trailblazer.
Every day amazing things happen at PSHH because of the commitment of women like Natalie. Bringing their experience, education, and perspective, our organization is enriched by their professionalism and dedication.  As October traditionally sees a national focus on women, I'd like to take pause to recognize these contributions.  It is an honor to serve alongside you, thank you for dedicating this chapter of your lives to our joint endeavor.
