October 2025 RCV Newsletter

Dear Villagers,

As we embrace the vibrant possibilities of this new month, we are thrilled to share an exciting website tip that promises to enrich your experience with nature and community! Dive into the world of "explore.org," a treasure trove of over a hundred live cameras capturing the breathtaking beauty of nature across the globe. Imagine witnessing the majestic Brown Bears in Alaska skillfully catching salmon from a serene waterfall, or immersing yourself in the tranquil underwater world of tropical reefs from Long Beach. For a dose of pure joy, don’t miss the heartwarming antics of adorable Labs on the "Full House Puppy Cam at Warrior Canine Connection!"

Recently, our trip to the zoo was a resounding success, with perfect weather and an engaging presentation from Zoo Educator Christine, fostering connections and joy among our seniors.

We are also eagerly anticipating the Redwood Coast PACE Open Houses this month, where families can explore how PACE’s innovative “wrap-around” approach provides essential support to older adults, allowing them to thrive in their homes and communities. The dedicated staff will be on hand to share insights about this comprehensive health plan that truly makes a difference.

Let’s continue to nurture our bonds and embrace these enriching experiences together. We look forward to connecting with you again next month!

At the Zoo!

On September 26th it was a lovely day and some RCV members spent it at the Sequoia Park Zoo!

Zoo Educator, Christine was a wealth of information with great stories about the habitat and its creatures. We were introduced to the somewhat camera-shy bears and Jenny Hanson found a great grey parrot sitting nearby.

.

Ann Souter and friend Nina both enjoyed their time and pointed out a reclusive fox hiding nearby.

Marianne, who has a healthy fear of heights managed to traverse one of the suspended bridges that took her to the highest point on the Redwood Skywalk with the help of those more fearless than her! Special thanks to member, Jenny Hanson!

Join us on October 22nd from 3 to 5 as we check out "Old Growth Cellars" on Hilfiker Rd. in Eureka!

Bob and Jim Go to the Library!

"Reading is a passion of mine," says Bob Morse, RCV Volunteer Driver. And for member Jim Peak, books hold a special place in his heart, "You can't have too many!" he shared.

When they visited the Eureka Library, it was all abuzz with customers on computer work stations, small groups meeting around one of their many tables and people just looking for that elusive publication among the stacks.

We asked Jim what books he was looking for and he promptly replied, "The Old Man and the Sea", a favorite of his by Hemmingway. Unfortunately, they didn't have that title available, but Jim found a few other books and was happy to check them out!

Bob must still be looking, as he didn't get anything that day, but he had a good time with his friend, Jim.
