Exciting New Incentive for City of Covington Entrepreneurs to Register for The Gauntlet Business Program and Competition™

AHEDC is excited to share that the City of Covington, in partnership with The Advancement Foundation, was one of six communities across the state of Virginia selected to receive a Community Business Launch (CBL) grant in the amount of $50,000.00. The grant will multiply business development training and utilize local and regional resources to enable new or existing businesses to accelerate growth and success in the City of Covington through The Advancement Foundation’s Gauntlet Business Program and Competition™.

Governor Glenn Youngkin Announces Over $3.7 Million in Growth and Opportunity for Virginia Grants

Governor Youngkin announced the award of over $3.7 million in Growth and Opportunity for Virginia (GO Virginia) grant awards for 11 projects in the commonwealth including Alleghany County for the Talent Pathways Planning Initiative.


The Talent Pathways Planning Initiative seeks to define talent pathways for the regions targeted industries, perform situational analysis of the region, and develop recommendations and strategies to increase the labor force in the region's priority industries.

Virginia Municipal League Awards City of Covington with 2023 Innovation Award

The Virginia Municipal League (VML) announced the winners of its annual awards for excellence in local government. The statewide competition recognizes innovative problem-solving, excellence in management, citizen participation, and improved services to citizens.


The City of Covington was awarded in the category of working with youth for the AHPS School Consolidation Project.

Scenic drives are a popular way to see the beauty of the Alleghany Highlands. Two of the greatest icons of Virginia’s Mountains happen to be roadside attractions in the Alleghany Highlands.


Falling Spring Falls, located just north of Covington, is one of the most photographed spots in the Commonwealth. Humpback Bridge, on Route 60 west of downtown Covington, is a popular place for a picnic and is home to one of the most unique LOVEworks signs in Virginia.


Whatever route you take, you are sure to find breathtaking scenery and maybe even some hidden gems along the way.
