The IMPACT Award, established in January 2022, is given to an athlete and a volunteer who has contributed to our organization in a way that exemplifies our commitment to respect, teamwork, and unity. Their behaviors and attitudes show a dedication to making themselves, their teammates, and their communities a place where people are valued and encouraged. These individuals promote behaviors and practices that lead to a healthier lifestyle, including sports, friendship, and acceptance.
The September Athlete Award goes to Brandon Q.
Brandon Quigley joined Special Olympics VA two years ago and has already made a splash.
Before VA, though, he started in New Jersey in first grade and did strider biking, soccer, golf skills,
basketball, swimming, and track. Brandon started with track in Virginia and expanded into
cycling (great rider), basketball, dance, soccer, swimming, pickleball, bocce, Top Golf, and golf.
Brandon is a pleasure to be around and always has a light approach to issues. He is a hard
worker and wants to succeed. He has learned much about sportsmanship and other life lessons in
these past two years and continues growing through the Special Olympics. Congratulations Brandon!
The September Volunteer/Contributor Award goes to Tessa Bowers.
As Communications Chair for the last year, Tessa Bowers significantly improved all communication forms for SOVAL. She has a unique combination of talents. Tessa is both very creative and also very technologically savvy. Most significantly, Tessa initiated substantive additions to our website (go take a look), launched our successful Instagram account, and made the newsletter fun and catchy. We also enjoyed her many sports videos, which used very entertaining music. Amid a hectic Council year, she always remained committed and professional. Thank you, Tessa!
If you want to nominate someone for an IMPACT award, please email Amy. New winners are chosen on the 25th of every month, so nominate a deserving volunteer or athlete!!
