New Tariffs on Lumber, Wood Product Imports Add Headwinds to Housing Market.

In a move that will raise housing costs, the U.S. Commerce Department imposed a 10% tariff on all timber and lumber imports and an additional 25% tariff on kitchen cabinets and furniture after announcing that it found that imports of these materials and products pose a national security risk.

“These new tariffs will create additional headwinds for an already challenged housing market by further raising construction and renovation costs,” said NAHB Chairman Buddy Hughes.

The tariffs go into effect on Oct. 14.

Review Spotlight

Extremely pleased with the quality of work, customer service, and competitive pricing provided by Evan's Roofing. I obtained 8 quotes from nearby companies and Evan's was priced very well while still holding some of the highest quality and detail of job in the proposal. The permit was obtained quickly, and I was assigned a project manager, William, who contacted me immediately and stayed in close touch and was very available and communicative throughout the entirety of the project. William went above and beyond to make sure I was happy with the work being done, coming by himself to confirm quality checks and answering calls and questions after-hours even for me! They left the job site and my home clean and as they found them, which was very refreshing. Highly recommend this company, and specifically working with William, to all homeowners! Eva was communicative and thorough through the quoting and signing process and was a great partner to do business with. Thank you to the entire team for the great experience!
