This November, Houston Community College’s West Houston Institute will offer a free course, “Do-It-Yourself Branding for Small Business,” to business owners in the Greater Houston Area.
This hands-on course teaches owners how to work with images, text, colors, and layout to define their brand and promote their business through print and online marketing. Sessions will be taught twice weekly over three weeks starting November 8th!
This offering is part of HCC’s Crisis to Opportunity (C2O) Consortium supporting business recovery in response to the current pandemic and resilience for future challenges.

OSHA 10-Hour Construction Class
Wednesday, October 27-Thursday, October 28 | 8:30am CDT | REGISTER
Classes cover OSHA standards and requirements as they apply to construction industry, and safety awareness to help in recognizing and reducing the risks of job site hazards. Participants who successfully complete all of the two-day in person or three-day online course will receive an OSHA 10-Hour Construction class completion card (typically within six to eight weeks).

NVSBW Boots to Business Reboot

B2BR is a one-day entrepreneurial education and training program offered by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) as part of the Department of Defense Transition Assistance Program (TAP). The course provides an overview of entrepreneurship and applicable business ownership fundamentals. Active Duty Service members (including National Guard and Reserve), Veterans of all eras, and spouses are eligible to participate at no cost.

Jim McIngvale was the keynote speaker at Junior Achievement's (JA) HCC hosted "Ignite the Spark" Event on Saturday September 25, 2021.
Tania Daniel, Sr. Director of Entrepreneurship Initiatives, Jr. Achievement of Southeast Texas, opened the event and introduced JA sponsors including HCC, Worley, Veritex, Microsoft, & LyondellBasell.
Dr. Maya Durnovo, Chief Entrepreneurial Officer, HCC District, welcomed the crowd, which includes 40-50 JA high school teams participating this year from around the greater Houston area.
Next up, was Jim McIngvale, interviewed by Sandra Louvier, Director of the Glenda & David Regenbaum Center for Entrepreneurship.

The Glenda & David Regenbaum Center for Entrepreneurship – HCC Northwest awarded $500 in prize money to five high school teams who pitched and won the Microsoft Innovation Pitch Challenge at our JA Ignite the Spark Day Event. Congratulations Winners!
· First Place - Episcopal High School
· Second Place - Elkins High School
· Third Place – Three way tie: Dulles High School, Harmony School of Innovation Sugarland and Katy High School
The JA high school teams continue to pitch and compete to improve and win funding throughout the Fall at more pitch competitions delivered by HCC, The Ion and Rice University. Best wishes to all high school teams!

Thanks to Alief ISD Instructor Brian Stephenson who is moving his AECHS Entrepreneurship & Economic Development class through the Junior Achievement program again this Fall. We thank some special HCC Business Plan Competition Alumni volunteers and mentors for delivering the JA lessons.
Lead Mentor, Arneisha Sadler, Founder & CEO, Emeniss Call Center, began delivering the earlier lessons and she also volunteers her time coaching the teams for pitch events. Thanks also to Erik Calderon, Producer, FMLC Films, and Dr. Juan Crawford, Broker, Owner, Leak Properties for delivering more lessons, as the teams plan their businesses and prepare to launch.
Best wishes to these freshmen and sophomore high school students as they plan, launch and sell!

Liftoff Houston Startup Competition Pitch Training by HCC | |
HCC Supports the City of Houston's Annual Liftoff Houston Startup Competition by delivering three Pitch Training Sessions to help prepare the entrepreneurs to pitch their plans within the competition and later to potential funders.
David Regenbaum and Sandra Louvier presented along with competition alumni, Megan Eddings, Founder & CEO, Accel Lifestyle and Lyndsey Brantley, Founder & CEO, Camellia Alise, delivering interactive training sessions with Liftoff team support on September 20, 22 & 25.
Participants learned how to develop a compelling pitch and had time to work up brief pitches. Several entrepreneurs did their pitches in the session to get feedback from their peers and from training facilitators. Plans were submitted in the Liftoff Startup Competition on October 8 and finalists pitch to judges to win prize money on November 6. Best wishes to all contestants!

2020-2021 Fiscal Year – It’s been a record breaking year, yet again for our Center with: three cohorts graduated from the Small Business Success Series by HCC© ; our 14th Annual HCC Business Plan Competition, and the roll out of the HCC Mattress Mack School of Selling in March, and yet again this August!
- Fall 2020 - 33 events with 1,163 in attendance.
- Spring-Summer 2021 - 47 events with 4,134 in attendance.

HCC Business Plan Competition – A series of 13 events from January through June – Awarded $26,000 in prize money to the top five teams, and in-kind prizes valued at $ 43,700 to 24 graduating teams.

Small Business Success Series by HCC© - We graduated Cohorts 2, 3 & 4 and are currently delivering Cohorts 5 & 6. Applications being taken now for Cohort 7, which is also an inaugural offering in our new Open for Business grant program.

HCC Mattress Mack School of Selling© - Rolled out new 6-session series, delivered twice with total attendance of 1,209 in March and 1,178 in August.
- Total Attendance - Fiscal YE 2020-2021: 80 events 5,300.

October. 6, 2020: The Houston Community College System was selected as the winner of the 2020 Entrepreneurial College of the Year award by the National Association for Community College Entrepreneurship (NACCE) at NACCE's annual conference, where entrepreneurial colleges from across the U.S. gather to share best practices. On behalf of all of our entrepreneurial programs and staff, we thank all of the entrepreneurs, partners, sponsors, volunteers, students, and HCC faculty and staff who have contributed to our efforts!
