Greetings!
Well, we made it.
North Texas survived another brutal summer—one that apparently didn’t receive the memo that September was supposed to bring relief. Instead, we experienced a record number of triple-digit days during the month and went 67 consecutive days without measurable rainfall. At times, keeping the Turtle Creek Corridor alive felt less like landscaping and more like triage.
Now, Mother Nature appears ready to make up for lost time. The latest forecast calls for widespread rainfall totals of two to five inches, with isolated areas potentially receiving as much as eight inches. After 67 dry days, apparently she intends to catch up all at once. We certainly need the rain, but please keep an eye on the weather and use good judgment near the creek and other low-lying areas.
In addition to making final preparations for the Gala and Tour of Homes, we’ve begun assessing the summer damage and identifying dead or struggling shrubs that need to be replaced. Once the storms pass and cooler weather settles in, we can begin restoring those areas and preparing the corridor for a healthier growing season.
But first, I think we’ve earned a celebration.
This weekend’s Gala and Tour of Homes give us the perfect opportunity to come together, enjoy some extraordinary food, entertainment and homes, and celebrate the community that makes TCA’s work possible. After the summer we’ve had, a little air-conditioning, champagne and beautiful architecture sound pretty good to me.
And because fall deserves a proper welcome, we’ll soon begin installing our pumpkin displays and transitioning the corridor to its seasonal color.
Now, if someone could just remind Mother Nature that fall temperatures are also part of the deal.
Warm regards,
