River Farm Update

Now several weeks after River Farm has been taken off the market and no longer threatened by development, our work continues. We are doing everything possible to support the AHS board as they assess how to move forward after such a tumultuous year. 

Permanent protection of River Farm through a conservation easement or another similar tool is very much a possibility, and NVCT will continue to provide AHS everything they need to consider such an option. In the months ahead, AHS hopes to be able to re-open the gates of River Farm to all who want to enjoy its incredible beauty, and we’ll certainly let you know when that is a possibility.
Accotink Creek, At-Risk and Worth Saving

We are urgently mobilizing to protect a set of flourishing forested properties bordering Accotink Creek in Fairfax County that are up for auction, placing them under the threat of speculative development interests. We need your help protecting this valuable natural area and the many precious species that inhabit it.

NVCT Nearby Nature Bioblitz begins October 1!

We are at the halfway point of our NVCT Nearby Nature BioBlitz and it has been a massive success! Using the fun, easy-to-use @iNaturalist app, citizen scientists have explored nature and gathered valuable data about the species living in our region. Look at the captivating collection of species here.

To coincide with our month-long Nearby Nature BioBlitz, on October 31 (Halloween), we invite you to an in-person BioBlitz at the Hidden Oaks Nature Center in Annandale from 12-2 pm. Your kids can dress up in their Halloween costumes and make observations of all the species the Nature Center has to offer. Arrive on time to secure your child a free goodie bag!
