HSL E-Newsletter: Issue #1 (October 2012)
It is our pleasure to introduce the first issue of the Health Sciences Library E-newsletter of the Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine. The purpose of this newsletter is to provide updates regarding our services and collections to our current and potential users. We will also highlight ways to use resources effectively and keep you up to date with any interesting library events in our School of Medicine community. As always, we welcome your feedback.

What's New -  AMA Manual of Style
The Library has subscribed to the AMA Manual of Style for on and off-campus use for the School of Medicine. The AMA Manual of Style, published by the American Medical Association, is a guide for authors and editors providing tips on types of articles for potential publication, details on manuscript preparation, citation styles, and intellectual property issues, as well as other information that will be helpful to anyone considering submission of manuscripts for publication in medical journals. The information may also be useful for writing abstracts or other types of scientific writing. Students and faculty may visit our e-books page to access this new resource under the topic 'Reference'.
What's New - VisualDx
The Libraries of the School of Medicine and
the NS-LIJ Health System have obtained a full site license for VisualDx. VisualDx is a clinical tool that provides access to over 23,000

peer-reviewed images and concise information for over 1200 diagnoses. This product is fully integrated with UpToDate, detailing diagnoses relating to visual conditions and infections. VisualDx can also be accessed via mobile devices. For more information about VisualDx mobile, visit http://www.visualdx.com/features/mobile-access.

National Medical Librarians Month

Did you know that October is National Medical Librarians Month (NMLM)?  In this month, we celebrate medical librarians who are the best at obtaining quality health information.  Stop by your medical library and wish your librarians a happy NMLM.  Visit the Medical Library Association site for more info: http://www.mlanet.org/.
If you have anything of interest that you think should be added to the Health Sciences Library newsletter, please email medicine.library@hofstra.edu, and we will gladly review all requests.
