with Holy Communion
Ridings Chapel Picnic Shelter

We will continue worshipping at the Ridings Chapel Picnic Shelter until October 18, 2020 after that

We move inside!
Beginning October 25, 2020 the Sunday 10:00 pm worship will be held in the fellowship hall of Reliance UMC, the following rules apply:

Here are the rules for in-person worship:
  • If you are sick stay home! This is very important to the health of the other worshipers. If others begin to get sick, no one will be able to worship.
  • If your immune system is compromised in any manner stay home. We can not guarantee our safety if you come out.
  • By Wednesday, prior to Sunday worship, we would like to know if you will be attending. You can register online (details to follow in a separate email). You will also be able to call if you do not have email or internet.
  • There will be no gathering in the parking lots before or after the worship.
  • EVERYONE MUST wear a mask. NO EXCEPTIONS. If you take the mask off at any time, you will be asked to put in back on. If you do not comply, you will be escorted back to your vehicle.
  • Safety distance of six feet will be practiced at all times.
  • There will be no singing, either by a choir or congregational. We will attempt to have some recorded music for the experience.
  • There will be limited access to the rest of the church.

Your Healthy Church Teams have worked hard to make in-person worship both safe and Spirit lifting. We will continue to monitor the rate of COVID-19 contagion around us. If the rate increases in the area, we will meet again to assess and amend our current plans.

We will continue to offer a virtual worship experience at 6:00 pm
Pastor Andy's Desk
If the pandemic has done anything, it has slowed the world done and given us more opportunity to reflect. Part of what I have done is to reflect on what the church is. I was reminded of the hymn by Richard Avery and Donald Marsh from 1972. It is in our hymnal, #558. I submit to you these are as good words as any that speak to what the church is:

The church is not a building, the church is not a steeple,
the church is not a resting place, the church is a people.

I am the church! You are the church! We are the church together!
All who follow Jesus, all around the world! Yes, we're the church together.

Verse 2:
We're many kinds of people, with many kinds of faces,
all colors and all ages, too, from all times and places.

Verse 3:
Some times the church is marching, sometimes it's bravely burning,
sometimes it's riding, sometimes hiding, always it's learning.

Verse 4:
And when the people gather, there's singing and there's praying,
there's laughing and there's crying some times, all of it saying:

Verse 5:
At Pentecost some people received the Holy Spirit
and told the Good News through the world to all who would hear it.

With me let us all give Thanks to God!
