Adult Summer Reading Bingo Winner is Jennifer Shum

Jennifer Shum said she "never wins anything," so she was thrilled to win a new Kindle after participating in our Adult Summer Reading Bingo game for the first time this summer.

Jenniferโ€™s favorite book this summer was from the Off-Campus series. She also discovered a new enthusiasm for reading using the Libby app. Once she started borrowing books, she found herself reading more and more.

Jennifer is looking forward to using Libby on her new Kindle. Her previous Kindle was too old to support the app, so she had been reading on her phone. The larger screen on her new Kindle will make reading much easier and more enjoyable.

Summer Reading was also a family activity for Jennifer, as both she and her children participated in the Library's programs this year.

Unlisted: Underappreciated Women Artists from the Derfner Judaica Museum

In the art world, "listed" is a word used to describe artists who are included in standard art reference books: you might see it used in auction houses and websites to signal that an artist is high-status. "Unlisted," the title of this program about 20th century Jewish women artists, exposes how status and legitimacy have often been denied to women in the art world. In an often sexist, male-dominated art world, these women frequently had to choose between traditional gender roles and their career: some were forced to give up their artistic practice, relegating their names into obscurity.

Join Derfner Museum Senior Curator Emily O'Leary as we revisit these artists and their work.

This program takes place on Zoom and registration is required. Click here to register.
