Letter from the Execution Director:
Dear Friends,
I am excited to share with you what has been an amazing month of progress!
As I've met with our partner high school leadership over the past month, I am so encouraged by the dedication and willingness I see from educators, counselors, and administrators to set up their students with our program, which can make that leap between high school and college and career readiness a reality.
Underserved high school students face hurdles other students do not. Their ability to take advantage of educational opportunities is often hindered by a lack of basic information and life skills. This school year, we face the additional challenge of mentoring students who have dealt with pandemic learning loss and related personal challenges, and how that affected their educational experience and views about the future.
The mission of Foundation for C.H.O.I.C.E. is to bridge this gap by offering a structured, one-on-one mentoring program to emphasize academics, extend additional learning activities, and teach basic employment skills with the ultimate goal of college completion and enhanced career potential. Toward this goal, the relationships we are building with Dallas ISD schools, students, and mentors for the 2022-23 school year are full speed ahead, as we prepare to support students through junior and senior year and prepare them for post-secondary success.
We are proud and motivated to have welcomed so many new mentors and returning mentors into the fold to begin the fall portion of the program. These mentors are the heart and soul of our program, giving their time and experience to help a young person realize their potential at a critical stage in their lives. In early November we will hold two important opportunities for Mentor Orientation, giving our volunteers the information they need to hit the ground running with their matched student. This is one of my favorite times of year for Foundation for C.H.O.I.C.E. As our student selections are made, our mentors trained and matched, the magic really begins. We are excited to continue this journey for our most precious resource, the children we serve. Thank you for your support!
