Volunteer Spotlight: Bruce Drysdale

Meet Bruce Drysdale, one of our most dedicated volunteers who brings his passion for plant-based living to every VegMichigan event! With a warm smile and a love for animals of all types, Bruce has been volunteering since 2016 and loves the community of like-minded people he’s found. Bruce says, “I love the people and the special energy at vegan events. I feel so lucky to be able to volunteer at VegMichigan.” We’re lucky to have you, Bruce!

VegMichigan is looking for more enthusiastic volunteers like Bruce to join our team! If you’re interested in getting involved and making an impact, sign up today and help us promote a healthier, kinder, and greener future!

Seva Cookbook Pre-Order

Our friends at Seva, a small, family-owned vegetarian restaurant specializing in vegan and gluten-free dishes with locations in both Ann Arbor and Detroit, are celebrating their 50th year in business with a second printing of their cookbook! All of the recipes are plant-based, many are gluten-free, and 46 of the 50 recipes in the book are vegan (or can easily be made vegan). The publish date is October 14. Pre-order the cookbook in their online store for $38.95 and it will be shipped to you when it's available, or get more info here. For a chance to win a copy, enter this month's raffle below!

Come See Us at Barn Sanctuary

VegMichigan will be tabling at Barn Sanctuary's annual MOOnster Mash on Sunday, October 6, from 12-4pm. Enjoy delicious plant-based foods from local food trucks, plus donuts and cider. Kids can trick-or-treat at various stations, take part in arts and crafts, get their faces painted, and win prizes while learning all about the residents at Barn. Plus, get a prize just by coming in costume! With the Goat or Potbelly Experiences, you'll get a chance to meet and interact with some of Barn's adorable residents, so be sure to bring comfortable shoes if participating. Get tickets here.

Help Stop Factory Farming & Protect Michigan's Waters

Please join Michiganders for a Just Farming System (MJFS) on Monday, Oct. 14, at 6pm for our monthly meeting. This month’s speaker will be Alex Beauchamp from Food & Water Watch who just released a new report and interactive map that provides a comprehensive picture of factory farm domination in America. Alex will review the study and discuss how U.S. factory farms are producing record amounts of waste that are endangering clean water and public health. Please register here to join us.

Coalition member and friend Jim Olson, attorney and founder of For Love of Water, a nonprofit law and policy center dedicated to protecting the public commons in water, lands, and community, recently published a new book, People of the Dune. The story unfolds with a fictional corporation’s ambitious plans to extract a dune and replace it with a sprawling residential complex along one of North America’s Great Lakes, which sparks a grassroots movement of resistance. Purchase the book in bookstores or on Amazon. For more information or to arrange for signings and events, contact the author at olsonjes22@gmail.com.
